Meanwhile, the US markets have closed again. We take a look at the live Bitcoin price and the prices of the top 25 crypto. Plus, we look at how criminal BTC are coming out of hiding, how secure the Bitcoin Blockchain is, and why you could be a perfect Valentine’s date if you have Bitcoin.
We begin, of course, with the live Bitcoin price and the prices of the top 25 crypto.
Live Bitcoin price flat, top 225 crypto also awaiting
At the time of writing, the live Bitcoin price is quoting EUR 32,616.21 ($36,827.94). This is 0.55% lower than when the US markets closed yesterday.
The top 25 crypto are also generally flat, although we do see some outliers. The biggest gain of the day is for Cosmos (ATOM) which is recovering from earlier losses with +10.59%. The biggest loss today is for Near (NEAR), at -3.01%. On the site of Tradeincrypto.com you can of course follow all live crypto prices.
With that, we see that the Bitcoin price is still moving in the range we outlined yesterday. That gives us the opportunity to look at other Bitcoin news.
Criminal Bitcoins leave their hiding place
On August 2, 2016, a security issue allowed hackers to loot 119,756 BTC from crypto exchange Bitfinex. Despite the staggering amount, the hackers did not enjoy their loot much. Indeed, the path of the BTC transactions has been followed and most of the crypto money captured has been marked. This immediately sets off alarm bells when these coins move or are issued.
Still, it did not stop the hackers from making transactions with the money as early as 2019. They also transferred BTC to unknown wallets several times after that. In the past few days, they moved more than 50% of the loot to an unknown wallet. They used 21 transactions to transfer a total of 64,643.29BTC to 1 wallet. The value of the transactions was about $2.47 billion. The wallet that received the astronomical amount is now filled with over 94,643 BTC and has not yet spent any Satoshi.
It is not yet clear what the cybercriminals are up to, because as you can see the BTC are also now exactly traceable and therefore difficult to spend. In addition, quite a few indicators were affected by this large transfer over exchanges. In this article you will find an overview of special on-chain analysis results, which should be taken with a grain of salt.
How secure is the Bitcoin blockchain?
Blockchain technology is often seen as infallible. In doing so, of course, it is crucial that the blockchain, and in particular the Bitcoin blockchain, cannot be cracked. The question, then, is how secure the Bitcoin blockchain is. For example, an incident in 2014 ensured that if one had been of ill will the Bitcoin blockchain could indeed be hijacked. There is also a risk that Bitcoin will explode in 10 years. You can read about what’s going on and how real that risk is in this BTC Blockchain article.
Are you the ideal Valentine because you have BTC?
Leading up to Valentine’s Day, trading platform eToro conducted a survey of 2,000 US crypto investors. They looked for a relationship between dating and crypto. From this came striking results. For example, 33% of those surveyed indicated that they were more likely to go on an online date if they saw something about crypto ownership in a profile.
40% of men claimed to be more interested if their potential partner notices something about crypto ownership on their profile. In doing so, it appears that people are more likely to continue their acquaintance if they notice that their date pays the first date’s bill in Bitcoin.
Still, some less positive things came out of this separate survey. For example, 55% of those surveyed appear to be looking at their banking or trading app more often than their dating app. Bitcoin as a Valentine’s Day gift does not score high either. 8% would appreciate a gift in crypto or NFTs, while almost 40% of respondents would be happy with a gift in cash. You can read the entire survey here.
