Despite the increasingly loud talk about a successor to the Nintendo Switch, no official word has yet been spoken about it. So while we wait for the new console, let’s go back in time. After all, the 3DS still has some really cool games on it.
The Nintendo eShop on the 3DS has recently closed for good. This means that a number of games are now basically unobtainable unless they have received a physical release. So a re-release on the Switch would be perfect to keep these games from disappearing.
5 classic 3DS games for the Nintendo Switch
The Switch regularly gets re-releases of games on previous Nintendo consoles. Think Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and most recently a remake of Metroid Prime. These 3DS titles wouldn’t be out of place on the hybrid console, either.
#1 Kid Icarus: Uprising was a great story on the 3DS
As the spiritual child of Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai, expectations were high for a new Kid Icarus on the 3DS. Those expectations have then been met, with many saying that Uprising has one of the best stories ever in a Nintendo game. So sounds like something you should want to play, and then gladly on the Nintendo Switch.
#2 Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros to the Switch
The Mario & Luigi franchise has always been able to bring something unique to the world of Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom. With turn-based combat and platforming like you’re used to, it’s actually quite striking that the series doesn’t have a part on the Nintendo Switch.
With a port from Dream Team, this can be fixed. The fourth part of the series offers a delightful story on both an all-new island and in the mysterious dream world.
#3 Tomodachi Life was Nintendo’s hit on the 3DS
One of the best-selling games on the 3DS, Tomodachi Life also deserves a port to the Switch. Compared to the wildly popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons, here you control an island, though here it is inhabited by the Miis you create.
#4 The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
A spiritual sequel to the (for many) best 2D Zelda game (A Link to the Past), A Link Between Worlds also added an extra dimension thanks to the hardware of the 3DS. Players could enjoy another adventure in Hyrule (just as we can now with Tears of the Kingdom), and considering its predecessor is already available via Nintendo Switch Online, a port only makes sense.
#5 Fire Emblem: Awakening on the Nintendo Switch
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is one of the best RPGs on the Nintendo Switch, with hundreds of hours of content. On the other hand, the series was not revived shortly before thanks to Awakening on the 3DS. In it, we follow the characters Chrom and Robin, whom you may also know from Super Smash Brothers, on a new adventure.
