Seven years after the release of the original PS VR glasses, the PlayStation VR2 finally appeared this year. It can undoubtedly be called a hefty upgrade, but you also have to shell out quite a bit of money for it. Here are 5 reasons why you should (or shouldn’t) buy the PS VR2.
Sony released new VR glasses this February that are more expensive than the PlayStation 5 itself (which, by the way, is required). Is this price tag justifiable or is it better to wait for an offer (or buy another headset, such as the Meta Quest 2 or PCVR glasses)?

#1 Breathtaking graphics
The PlayStation VR2 is a mind-blowing piece of hardware, and the PS VR2 exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain proves that all the more. This game takes full advantage of the VR platform’s next-gen features, making it an indispensable experience on the headset. With this headset, you will undoubtedly enjoy breathtaking graphics.
#2 Play literally any PlayStation game in VR
Not only can you play VR games on the PS VR2, but you can also experience every other game on your console in a virtual environment. The cinematic mode lets you play your favorite PS5 games and watch the best Netflix series on a nice big screen. Delightful!
#3 High price
With a price tag of 600 euros, the PlayStation VR2 cannot exactly be called cheap right now. The VR glasses are not only more expensive than the Meta Quest 2, but also require additional hardware. The required PlayStation 5 console will cost 550 euros after the price increase (or 450 if you go for the digital-only version). That brings the total price to get started with the PS VR2 above 1,000 euros. Ouch!

#4 Still need a cable
The PlayStation VR2 is not standalone, so it still requires a cable to connect it to the PlayStation 5. VR gaming, however, is usually not something that involves sitting dead still on the couch. Instead, it requires the necessary space to move freely, especially with active games like the well-known Beat Saber. It’s only a matter of time before you get caught behind the cable with your controllers (or your feet)….
#5 Supply of games is sparse (for now)
There are certainly some top titles available on the PlayStation VR2, such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, but Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village VR and The Last Clockwinder should not be missing from this list either. Yet many games from the launch lineup have also appeared on other VR glasses, and the development of good, new VR games has been at a standstill for a while. Only time will tell if enough (exclusive) games will come to the PS VR2 to make it really worthwhile.
