7 Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom tips to get you started

Last week, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released on the Nintendo Switch, and we can imagine that the game is a bit overwhelming. For players who haven’t played predecessor Breath of the Wild, for example, these tips are incredibly helpful.

A game like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is huge. Although there is a speed run that takes less than 1.5 hours, most players put well over a hundred hours into it. To keep you from getting too frustrated with the game, these tips are pretty handy.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is definitely a challenge

These little tricks are going to make playing the game a little easier. But make no mistake: with these seven tips, it still won’t be a leisurely stroll through Hyrule. There has to be some challenge.

1. Change your buttons

The default in the game is that you jump by pressing X. Switch that function to the B button. You can then use X to run with it. That takes some getting used to, but it feels much more intuitive than the other way around.

2. Turn on the Pro HUB

Admittedly; this tip for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t make the game any easier. Still, it allows you to explore Hyrule as if it were a moving painting because you hide all the information, so you’re only concerned with Link and the scenery.

To do this, go to the HUD option and select Pro. This will turn off all information.

3. Stick to the storyline for a while until Purah’s Quest

In an open world game, it’s tempting to start wandering around right away. But if you stick to the storyline for a while until Purah’s Quest, a world will really open up for you.

You’ll get a paraglider, and this will allow you to explore Hyrule much easier than just running around. We also recommend going to Rito Village and doing the quest with Tulin. This will give you the “gust” skill, which is incredibly useful in combination with your paraglider.

4. Make everything visible in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

One of the main goals is to get as much of Hyrule on your map as possible. Therefore, try to climb as many Skytowers as possible fairly quickly. This will put all areas on your map, making aimless wandering unnecessary.

5. Use your “old” Amiibos.

The nice thing about Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is that you can revive your “old” Amiibos. For example, scanning your Zelda Amiibo will give you rare weapons.

But non-Zelda Amiibos can also come in handy. For example, you get money or food and you don’t have to do anything for it.

6. Take notes manually

It’s a bit curious that you have to write along in a notebook or on the bench, but to find special missions it doesn’t hurt. Often NPCs (non-playable characters) drop certain mysteries that don’t get recorded in your logbook. So if you make a note of it, you might discover more quests.

7. Always keep saving in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

It’s a bit obvious but in a game like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it’s necessary to always keep saving. And this is mainly due to the fact that such a big game like this sometimes has glitches.

So make sure to savet the game with regularity, especially if you feel you have to tussle with a difficult opponent.

So with these seven tips, playing Zelda should be even more fun. So have fun figuring out the magical world of Hyrule.

In case you don’t have the game yet; it’s on sale here for 62.99 euros.
