The game Stray from developer BlueTwelve Studio and publisher Annapurna Interactive is number one on the list of best Steam games for now. The legendary game God of War has to lose out. The Steam release of Stray grabs a score of 8.6.
The success of Stray is unprecedented. Overall, the futuristic game about a cat only has to lose out on Metacritic to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (89 percent, Nintendo Switch) and Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels (86 percent, Xbox/pc). The PS5 version of Stray grabs a rating of 84 percent on the site.
Stray is the ultimate cat game
It is important to note that Stray is a rather standard game. It is about a cat in a post-apocalyptic world. Humanity has disappeared and only a Cyberpunk-like world with robots remains.

We’ll leave in the middle for a moment what exactly your goal is in the game. Not only because we don’t want to give spoilers but because it remains vague.
In addition, it’s a typical pick-up-and-play game. In other words, anyone can play it, even if you are not a hardcore gamer. But that’s exactly what makes it such a special game, and in all honesty so much fun to even just watch.
A number of professional game critics (somewhat rightly) pointed out that the game was hugely overhyped. If you move on a bit, it is finished in about five hours anyway. You are constantly given clues, so it is not immediately very challenging. That’s honestly part of the charm.

But the moment the first images of Stray came online, the hype started bubbling. And that’s totally justified; it’s a beautiful game that makes you feel very relaxed. In addition, the animation of the cats is phenomenal. And that’s not easy, says also the famous YouTuber Jackson Galaxy. And the best man knows a thing or two about cats.
The hype and success of the game was completely unexpected even for developer BlueTwelve producer Swann Martin-Raget. “We weren’t prepared for it and we still aren’t!” said Martin-Raget in an interview with LADbible.
“That hype didn’t change our approach, because we were already well advanced in production. But we did want to make everything perfect down to the last detail, especially for the cat owners, because they are experts.”
The advantage of working for BlueTwelve is therefore obvious. Swann Martin-Raget explains: “We also all have cats in the office. Then they start stomping on your keyboard and shut everything down before you can save anything. Or they suddenly start ‘singing’ during an important business call.”
Oh yes, I as a cat owner can absolutely attest to this, and potbelly how irritatingly cute it is.
Regardless, Stray is a delightful game and is available for purchase on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam.
