Gamescom is in full swing and quite a few developers showed off their latest games. We list the most important reveals.
After the elimination of E3, Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom remain as the big game shows. Gamescom is currently in full swing, and that means a lot of new games will be announced again, including new titles in the Borderlands and Mafia franchises.
But which announcements should you really not miss? Here are the most important games in a row.
Borderlands 4 and Mafia : The Old Country during Gamescom
Let’s start with Borderlands. No, we don’t need to waste too many words on the movie that’s currently in theaters and is being completely slammed by fans and reviewers alike. There is much better news: a new game is coming.
During Gamescom, developer 2K showed a teaser of Borderlands 4 for the first time. If this game will be as good as the previous parts, it promises to be an entertaining experience, unlike the movie.
The biggest news during the Gamescom opening night, however, came at the end. As Apple has “One More Thing,” the announcement of a new installment in the Mafia games came as a surprise. The Old Country is set in the early years of the last century in Italy, a setting we gamers are eager to get to know better.
The biggest Xbox announcements
Xbox also showed off some of its big games during the opening of Gamescom. Although we knew that the Indiana Jones game is coming, the company has now shown more gameplay, and it promises to be a true spectacle.
In addition, Xbox also announced the release date. The game is coming to the Xbox Series S/X and PC on December 9. But there is more: in 2025, the game is coming to the PlayStation 5. This is special because Microsoft is now also bringing new exclusives to its competitor, albeit with a later release date. The game should be released sometime in May.
In addition, Microsoft came out with new footage from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, due for release on Oct. 25. In the Most Wanted mission, players must search for evidence, while it soon turns into rock-hard action.
Other big games
Another notable announcement is the game Masters of Albion. This game is being created by Peter Molyneux, who was previously responsible for such classics as Dungeon Keeper, Fable, and Black and White. For his new game, he is combining elements from these big names.
Players build a city during the day while it is attacked by monsters at night. Players can control a resident themselves and fight against the enemies. The game should be released soon.
Speaking of building cities, new footage has also been shown of Civilization 7. This game is due for release on Feb. 11, 2025. The game will come out on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S/X and the Nintendo Switch.
