Call of Duty remains playable on the PlayStation 5… for now, that is.

Call of Duty remains playable on the PlayStation 5 for

Yesterday, Sony already expressed its expectation that the Call of Duty games would simply appear on the PlayStation 5 after Microsoft’s acquisition of Actvision Blizzard. And the boss of the Xbox division is now speaking out about that.

On Twitter, Phil Spencer, the boss of the Xbox division, let it be known that he had a conversation with the senior people at Sony. In doing so, he indicated that Microsoft has the will to continue releasing Call of Duty on the PlayStation 5 and 4.

Call of Duty still on the PlayStation 5 for now

And with that, we are writing about Call of Duty on the PlayStation 5 for the third time. With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, that was the first fear of gamers. Then Sony indicated that agreements had been made with the company and it was assumed that Microsoft would stick to them. And now the boss of Xbox indicates that those agreements are indeed in place and will be honored. Should these agreements expire, then there is a chance that the series will continue to be released on the Sony consoles.

Twitter won’t load because you didn’t give permission.

Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony. I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.

At least, that’s what Xbox has in its mind right now. Eventually, everything could change and it could be decided to let Call of Duty skip the PlayStation 5 and release it exclusively on the Xbox Series X. But doing so would mean missing out on a large portion of the market. After all, the game sells several tens of millions of copies each year on Sony’s consoles. In that way, you’re missing out on a billion dollars in sales if you don’t release it.

Or is this just Warzone?

It could also be that Spencer is talking about Warzone which they want to continue to offer on the PlayStation 5 and 4. And that a new part in the series will still come exclusively to the Xbox. The word “desire” is therefore interesting in this context. That is, say, expressing the will. That is not a hard guarantee. In that respect, it seems that this soap opera will continue for a while.
