Call of Duty Warzone 2 should come next year, including on the PlayStation 5

With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, there is quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Call of Duty series. But it looks like you can still go wild with games on the PlayStation 5 in the coming years.

That’s according to a new release from Bloomberg. It states that the series will be on the PlayStation 5 for three more years. With Call of Duty Warzone 2 being the notable title that would come next year.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 still on the PlayStation 5, as usual.

The name Call of Duty Warzone 2 is striking, because I’ve always had the idea it’s a title di as a live service that will continue to exist and get new updates each time. But perhaps with a completely new part one can do things that are currently not possible. Whether certain unlocked content will then be included, of course, remains to be seen. Fortunately, it has not yet come to that. The game received a major update with the release of Vanguard and it is expected that this will happen again at the end of this year.

That is, after all, when Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 would be released. Because after Sledgehammer released Vanguard last year and Treyarch came out with Black Ops 4 before that, now it’s back to Infinity Ward. And after the success of Modern Warfare, it makes sense that there would just be a sequel to that. In 2023, then, you could expect another new game from Treyarch in addition to Warzone 2. That might be Black Ops 5. Or that they might do something completely different. And so all of these games would still just appear on the PlayStation 5.

After 2024 uncertainty

But whether you can get started with a new Call of Duty in 2024 remains to be seen. Perhaps the contractual agreements between Sony and Activision Blizzard will expire and Microsoft may decide to release the game series exclusively on the Xbox. With the exception of Warzone probably, since the second part will just come on the PlayStation platforms and then probably be supported for quite a few years.
