A board game like Catan can keep you entertained for hours. But this premium set really takes the game to the next level.
Catan is obviously a great game, but it can feel a bit dusty at times. You’ve seen those familiar wooden pieces and standard tiles often enough by now. Maybe it’s time for a cool upgrade. On Kickstarter, the popular crowdfunding site, you can now score a new, deluxe version of the game.
The Catan Masterpiece campaign, presented by Fanroll LLC, is all about premium, customized game components. Think 3D components, but in a deluxe version, made from special materials such as wood, metal, resin and even cut gemstones. A great way to take your gaming experience to the next level.
Why this Kickstarter set of Catan is so special
The Catan Masterpiece campaign actually started as a premium dice set, but it soon became bigger than that. Fanroll LLC decided not only to upgrade the dice, but right away to give the entire Catan game a deluxe makeover. Instead of the standard game, this campaign allows you to create your own unique set. You can choose from a variety of handmade parts made of wood, metal, resin and even cut gemstones.
So this is not a premium version of Catan, but individual handcrafted parts that really give the game an upgrade. From wooden or painted resin dice to metal or resin Robber pieces and gemstone hex tiles. And there are even three different sets of player pieces: Classic Metal, Plastic Civilizations and Metal Civilizations. The possibilities are truly endless.

What can you get?
The Catan Masterpiece campaign offers a range of options, depending on your budget and how fancy you want to make it. Here are the different levels:
Explorer ($25): Choose two plastic pieces from Ancient Civilizations and one of eight pins.
Harbormaster ($69): Everything in the Explorer layer, plus a full set of nine gates, a wooden dice set, a resin rover of your choice and two of the eight pins.
Traditionalist ($99): Everything in the Harbormaster tier, plus a set of Classic Metal player pieces, a set of Sharp-edge Dice, a metal Robber and three of the eight pins.
Architect ($149): Choose four plastic ancient civilizations, a metal ancient civilization, a set of nine gates, sharp dice, a gem robber and four of eight pins.
Lumberjack ($299): A set of wooden hexagons, wooden screen frames, acrylic number discs, all in the Architect layer and five of the eight pins.
Crafty ($499): Sparkle Resin hexagons, Sparkle Resin screen frames, metal number discs, all in the Architect layer and six of the eight pins.
Stonemason ($749): Gemstone hexagons, Sparkle Resin sieve frames, metal number discs, all in the Architect layer and seven of the eight pins.
Noble ($999): The ultimate deluxe Catan set. Gemstone hexagons, Sparkle Resin sieve frames, metal number discs, all ancient civilizations, a set of Metal Classic Player Pieces, a set of nine gates, a set of dice made of painted wood with sharp edges, a resin robber, a metal robber, and all eight pins.
And for those who want something specific, the individual components can also be purchased as add-ons, allowing you to tailor the set completely to your needs.
Can you buy it in the Netherlands?
Currently, the Catan Masterpiece set is only available here through Kickstarter, so you cannot buy it in regular stores. If you live in the Netherlands, you can participate in the Kickstarter campaign to get the craft components.
At the time of writing, the Catan Masterpiece Kickstarter has already raised an impressive $286,318, which is a whopping five times the original goal of $50,000.
