Everything you want to know about the new Battlefield game

Battlefield has a lot to make up for. It looks like that’s exactly the plan for the very latest addition to the series.

In the world of First Person Shooters, there are some very big names. There are many discussions about who are among the absolute best, but the most well-known series are definitely Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Call of Duty has a new game every year. With Battlefield, it stays quiet a bit longer. Until now. For a new game in the series has been announced. Here’s everything you want to know about the latest Battlefield.

Battlefield needs to prove itself again

The last Battlefield we got was Battlefield: 2042. Opinions about that game are divided, but generally the consensus is that the game was a pretty big flop. Bad servers, too chaotic gameplay, little innovation and incredibly mediocre graphics. A debacle of sorts.

The game managed to redeem itself somewhat from this dramatic start in the last few years. Still, the greatest damage had already been done. Many gamers stayed away from the game. And that was a shame, especially since the previous two parts, Battlefield V and Battlefield 1, had been very well received.

So Battlefield has some making up to do. And that’s where Electronic Arts (EA), the company behind the game, seems to be making a big push. They say they are taking “considerable inspiration” from two of the most successful parts of the series: Battlefield 3 and 4. In other words: not too much fuss and just good popping.

Battlefield goes back to its roots

We still know very little about the new installment in the series. The only official source is concept art shared by EA itself. However, news platform IGN did have an interview with a senior figure within the company. This Vince Zampella was able to share a few things about the new game.

The decline of the series is partly due to the overly ambitious plans of its creators. Everything had to be bigger, faster, better and more explosive. That sounds nice on paper, but in practice it caused quite a bit of technological wrangling. With the latest Battlefield, EA wants to go back to basics.

Among other things, that means we’ll get a modern setting again, we’ll get the “old-fashioned” classes again and the focus will be on dynamic maps again. That’s where the inspiration from Battlefield 3 and 4 comes in. These two volumes are considered the highlight of the game series. So it is obvious that an attempt to win back fans will be based on previous successes.

Multiple studios working on Battlefield simultaneously

Zampela confirms that multiple studios are working on the new Battlefield at the same time. They are DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion. As such, it will be one of the most ambitious projects in the series. Since ambition was one of the pitfalls of the earlier games, it is wise to be vigilant.

That doesn’t stop EA from already making big statements. With the new Battlefield, they even want to completely overwhelm competitor Call of Duty. Whether they will really succeed in doing so remains to be seen, but the nostalgic battle between the familiar names is something that has been going on for years. Who knows, maybe it will have a positive influence on the game’s success.

Many more details about the game are not yet available. Most likely, the game will be released sometime in 2025 for PC and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In any case, it is clear that EA is eager to win back its old fans.
