Prime Video has announced a new series. It will be a live action version of the game series Like a Dragon.
Prime Video keeps coming up with new successful series. Soon there will be a new season of The Boys, a while ago the video game adaptation of Fallout came out and they don’t plan to stop yet.
After the success of their previous video game adaptation, they are going to try the same thing with another video game. Prime Video recently announced a new series, and it will be based on the SEGA game series; Like a Dragon.
Like a Dragon on Prime Video
The series is officially named Like a Dragon: Yakuza, and will have six episodes. Yakuza was the name of the game series before it was changed to Like a Dragon, so it’s kind of a nod to the past.
Like a Dragon: Yakuza will be a Japanese series, with a largely Japanese cast as well. The series will be released in two parts in 240 countries and parts of the world. The first part of the Prime Video series will be released on Oct. 25 and the second part Nov. 1. So you will have to be patient for a while before you can watch the entire series.
The game series
Yakuza, or nowadays Like a Dragon, is a Japanese game series created by Sega. The games are a combination between action, adventure, fighting, role-playing and a good dose of humor. The first game in the franchise came out almost 20 years before the Prime Video series, in 2005.
Each game is a separate crime drama in its own right. The Yakuza games are based on the lives and actions of the real Yakuza. This is an aggressive group in Japan, many famous movies were also made about this. The most common character in the games is Kazuma Kiryu, a man who gave up his life with the Yakuza.

The Yakuza or Like a Dragon video game series is a huge success. By 2023, according to Sega, the franchise had sold more than 21 million copies since its debut in 2005. This success is therefore the reason for the upcoming Prime Video series.
Prime Video, meanwhile, has shown with Fallout that it is capable of making a good video game adaptation, so let’s hope they turn this game into a great series as well. Unfortunately, it will be a few more months before the series actually has. Like a Dragon: Yakuza comes out on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1.
