Players of Fortnite will soon be able to play a new gamemode that will ensure they no longer have to turn to games such as CS:GO. In fact, Riot Games has looked very closely at other game makers.
Fortnite is mostly popular among younger children, who compete against each other in a large world until only one player remains. They can use weapons to attack each other and build structures to protect themselves. In addition to that Battle Royale game mode, more play options have come to Fortnite in recent years, such as Safe the World and Rocket Racing, for example.
On Dec. 11, the Ballistic game mode will be added. In that new first-person mode, two teams of five players are formed to compete against each other. One of the teams must plant the so-called Rift Point Device. The other team must dismantle that device. If it succeeds, that team wins. If it fails, the team that planted the Rift Point Device wins.
Fortnite looks more and more like other games
This gamemode has Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, clearly based on similar gamemodes from other games. There is a similar mode in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) from 2012, which also involves planting a bomb. Also in Valorant, a shooter from Riot Games that came out in 2020, you play a similar mode that centers on dismantling some kind of bomb.
A team that is the first to win seven rounds is the winner of a game of Ballistic. Between rounds, players can make purchases, such as weapons. After six rounds, teams switch sides and roles. All very similar to the games mentioned above.

Epic Games looked at other games more often
This is not the first time Epic Games has clearly looked to other games. For example, the Rocket Racing mode in Fortnite was clearly copied from Rocket League, The Verge notes. The LEGO mode in Fortnite clearly has features from Minecraft. And the Impostors mode, which now no longer exists, seemed to have been copied from Among Us, which was very popular during the corona era.
So if you like planting and dismantling bombs, you have more and more to choose from. One big advantage Fortnite has over CS:GO: the game is free. But so is Valorant.
