It was a painful month for Google. The plug went out on Google Stadia. So some panic among gamers because OMFG!…everything down. Not to worry; Bethesda has your save files from Elder Scrolls in the cloud. And that saves hundreds of hours of gaming.
Stadia was not what it was supposed to be. It was a promise, and promise makes debt. And the company just pulled the plug on their gaming service (thanks). But what about all those games and saves? Never fear: game publishers like Bethesda, Ubisoft and CD Projekt Red are jumping into the breach.
Bethesda and Google strike deal
No worries for players of The Elder Scrolls Online. Google has promised that the so-called ESO (for your saves) will be transferred to the cloud. And that’s a big relief for people who may have over 100 hours in the game.
Google is busy sending emails to people who play the game. However, there is a kink: you must have the game on PC.
Buy again?
In other words, you are now required to buy the game again from Bethesda on another platform. That’s agonizing. Not everyone has a gaming PC and wants to make that investment, since the save files only work on PC. Perhaps Shadow is a solution then.
So there is some panic in the tent because Bethesda is suddenly going to Google to figure out how to transfer the save (how likely do you think it is to get this right?).
Thank God both companies are being assisted because Ubisoft and CD Projekt Red, for Cyberpunk 2077, are doing the exact same thing with their games.
