Fall 2025 should be the time: GTA 6 will be released then. That’s still a while away, but we already have some info. Here’s what we know so far.
Tired of waiting for GTA 6, we are by now. This September marks 11(!) years since the release of GTA 5. It’s high time the sequel finally came out.
Unfortunately, that means we have to wait even longer. The date (as far as we have one) when GTA 6 will finally see the light of day does get closer every moment. And during that long wait, we’ve been able to gather quite a bit of info about the game. Here’s what we know so far about Grand Theft Auto VI.
GTA 6 comes out on consoles first
According to Rockstar, the makers of GTA, it should be out in the fall of 2025: the game is scheduled for release then. The game will come out for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox series X/S. PC gamers are unfortunately out of luck.

A former Rockstar employee, Mike York, told his own YouTube channel that GTA 6 will not come out immediately on the computer. According to him, transferring the game from console to PC is a very “complicated process. Rockstar has used this approach before for its games. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 did not appear on PC until later.
GTA 6 set in Vice City (and more)
Recently, the very first trailer for GTA 6 was released. In it, we were not only introduced to one of the main characters, Lucia, but also to the environment where the game will take place. Sun, alligators and bizarre people; many fans joked that the game is set in the state of Florida.
Since GTA never uses real places, that is not the case. However, we do know the setting from a previous Grand Theft Auto. We return to Vice City, a tropical city that is indeed very similar to Miami. And for those who already found Los Santos from GTA 5 impressive, according to Rockstar, this Vice City will be the most “extensive and vibrant city to date.
When the first reports about the game appeared in 2022, some “insiders” claimed that the world of GTA 6 would be so vast that it would even involve multiple states. You could explore areas from both East and West America, somewhat like in Red Dead Redemption 2. This was (probably) scrapped due to time constraints. But don’t be alarmed! In fact, Rockstar hints that the “map will not remain static. In short: new cities, areas and missions will be added after release.
The story and a female lead character
GTA 6 will have two main characters. In the trailer, we were briefly introduced to one of the main characters: Lucia. The other character, a man and apparently Lucia’s “partner in crime,” does not yet have a name. We don’t have many details about the storyline, but that it will be a criminal mess is obvious.
Indeed, in the trailer we see Lucia and her partner during a robbery. Chances are that the story builds up to a big heist, or “big score. This is partly similar to the storyline from GTA 5, so we are curious to see what interesting twists we will experience. Either way, we are dealing with two playable characters. That dynamic will be of great importance in gameplay and story, just like in the previous installment.
