GTA 6 will undoubtedly be the game of the year in 2025. That scares the competition, and that has considerable consequences.
GTA 6 broke all records when the game was announced. The first trailer on YouTube has now been viewed 225 million times, which is unprecedented for a game. But this is also a bizarre number outside the gaming world. Squid Game’s trailer, for example, stands at just 55 million.
So it is not surprising that not only the game world, but also the film industry is watching the game’s release date with great interest. Indeed, it is causing enormous anxiety among game and movie producers.
GTA 6 scares other game publishers
So far, game studio Rockstar has not been very clear about the release of GTA 6. All we know is that the game will be released sometime in the fall of 2025. Strictly speaking, that means sometime between Sept. 21 and Dec. 20.
A hefty time frame, but it instills great fear in other game makers. They absolutely do not want their game to come out at the same time as GTA 6, Bloomberg reports. And that actually makes a lot of sense. Expectations for the game are so high that bizarre numbers will go over the counter upon release.
Gamers have no time for other games during that period and will be crazy to purchase another game at full price during that period. So other game makers don’t want their game to come out during the same time period. In fact, no release besides GTA 6 has yet been scheduled in the fall of 2025.
Should the game be delayed, which happens regularly in the gaming world, it will in turn affect other studios that will then move their game. Nevertheless, Rockstar says it is still on track for the release of GTA 6.
2025 promises much for gamers
There is also another elephant in the china shop: the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. It is still unclear when this device, too, will be released. Although it has a slightly different target audience than GTA 6, it also seems strong that it will be released at the same time. Still, both GTA 6 and the successor to the Switch should go on sale during the 2025 holiday season.
There are additionally major games that do not yet have a release date in 2025, but should come out sometime in that year. Examples include Death Stranding 2, Metal Gear Solid, Fable, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Blade and Doom: The Dark Ages. So 2025, with GTA 6, promises to be a banner year for gamers.
