PlayStation is known for its good Exclusives, while Xbox has always struggled. Will Indiana Jones change that?
God of War, Horizon, Spider-Man, Astrobot: all are PlayStation 5 exclusives known for their quality. At Xbox, the past few years have been a struggle. Forza, Halo and Gears of War are good titles, but don’t live up to the competition. Can Indiana Jones change that?
Indiana Jones is the latest Xbox exclusive to be released recently. Is this the change in direction Microsoft’s console is hoping for?
This is Indiana Jones
For years, games based on movies had a kind of stigma. They were, with few exceptions, never really good. Nowadays, this is different. Perhaps the best example of this is the Star Wars games, especially the Jedi series. Xbox now hopes to repeat that trick with Indiana Jones: a game starring an archaeologist/ treasure hunter. A genre that is not new and also has stiff competition from strong franchises like Tomb Raider and Uncharted. Still, Xbox has handled it very well.
To cut to the chase: Indiana Jones is truly a gem. This is mainly because it does an excellent job of transferring the atmosphere of the Indiana Jones movies to your Xbox. In fact, perhaps the game’s story is even better than that of the latest films. This is partly due to strong scenes and good acting from the voice actors.
A real adventure. (Image: Xbox)
In the game, you take on the role of the adventurer. After the museum where you work is broken into, you set out to investigate. Which archaeological piece was taken and why? The trail soon leads to the Vatican, which at that time is occupied by Mussolini’s men.
How the story continues we won’t give away, but be prepared for plenty of plottwists and surprises. Consequently, you will want to keep playing the game to know how it ends.
Freedom
Although Indiana Jones is not an open-world game, the game offers you quite a bit of freedom. You can move around freely in large spaces, making your own plan of action. Choose your own route and complete sub-missions in the meantime. That world looks beautiful, by the way.
Of course, with Indiana Jones you also expect some puzzles to progress. Those, too, are well put together. You will be presented with some in both the main story and side-quests. You will have to think, though it is also easy to get hints.

Not everything is perfect at Indiana Jones
So is everything top notch about this game? Unfortunately, no. For example, the combat system is very monotonous and doesn’t amount to much. Even on a higher difficulty it offers little challenge. The stealth mechanics also become monotonous after a while.
Anyway, you shouldn’t think of this game as a rock-hard action game. The game really needs the story and adventure. You can see that in the pace of the game. It is really a slower game where you mainly explore on your own, just like Indiana Jones does in the movies.
Conclusion
Although the game is not very challenging in terms of fighting, the game scores very well in other aspects. Therefore, it is a great game if you want to experience a real Indiana Jones story. A story that is even better than the last movies. All that in a world that also looks beautiful.
Finally with this, Xbox has its own (temporary) exclusive that many a PlayStation 5 owner will envy. Fortunately, they can try the game too, as it should also be released on the Japanese console in the spring.

Battles
Indiana Jones is a game that knows how to bring the movie atmosphere back to the console like no other. This with a fantastic story and equally beautiful graphics. It is just a bit of a shame that the battles are just a bit less, although that is not the main focus of the game. If you want a real adventure then this game is a real winner that lets you determine your own path.
