With the Nintendo Switch 2 almost within reach, we are finally getting more and more concrete information about the console. Fact can now be separated from fable surrounding the console’s many rumors.
Because the rumor mill surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 was running at full speed. So what was true about all of that?
Which rumors surrounding the Switch 2 turned out to be (un)true?

But as for the rumors for the Nintendo Switch 2, sometimes it didn’t make any sense at all. It was also difficult for us as an audience to separate fact from fable until Nintendo gave concrete info. That time is now over.
As it looks now, the Nintendo Switch sequel will be released in the first half of 2025. Then we will be able to deny or confirm all rumors with certainty. For now, some laughable lies have been spread around the console.
Fact and fable surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2
From bizarre lies about the use of AI to the actual design of the console. These rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 turned out to be true or totally false:
A summer release for the console | not true
Back in early 2024, several “anonymous” game developers claimed they were already working on games for the Switch 2. This was the first insight into possible hardware and software the Switch 2 would get. An AI company cleverly capitalized on that information.
Several AI-created advertisements for the Nintendo Switch 2 appeared. In doing so, it seemed that the console would be released as early as around September. Unfortunately, nothing turned out to be true and it was a stunt by the company AI Shark.
Joy-Con drift is being addressed | well true
Without a doubt, the Nintendo Switch has become so popular because of its revolutionary Joy-Cons. Never before could a console be transformed into a handheld so quickly. Yet these controllers had the necessary problem, chief among which was stick-drift.
When the first information about the new Joy-Cons appeared, it was immediately said that this problem would be addressed. And that is true according to Nintendo. In addition, the controllers will become magnetic, making them even easier to pair with the console.
Backwards compatibility | well true
Once you would buy a Switch 2, what should you do with all your old Nintendo Switch games? Ever since it became clear that Nintendo’s newest console is going to be very similar to its predecessor, fans speculated on the backward compatibility of games.
That one has been confirmed by Nintendo. That means you can play your old Switch games on the new console as well. This is probably going to be very similar to how Sony handles this with the PlayStation 4/5.
The console is going to cost $500 | (probably) true
Making pronouncements about the price of the new console is difficult until Nintendo releases an official release date. Still, most fans seem to agree that the console will cost around $500. That’s a fairly normal price for console at this time.

That makes the Switch 2 a lot pricier than its predecessor. Regardless, it is still cheaper than the megalomaniac price tag of the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Mario Kart 9 will be the launch title | not true
Which game will be released simultaneously with the new console? Often these games are then bundled with the new console. For the Nintendo Switch, that was Mario Odyssey. Possibly Mario will get the launch title again, this time with Mario kart 9 according to some rumors.
Unfortunately, that cannot be confirmed anywhere. Nintendo has not released anything at all about the launch title and Mario Kart 9 is probably still in full development. In fact, we haven’t heard anything about that game yet.
We hope to hear more about the Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming weeks. Of course, we’ll keep you posted, including about the latest games. Wondering which games we thought were the coolest this past year? You can read it here:
