Although 2025 hasn’t been around very long, we can already call Kingdom Come Deliverance II the surprise of the year. Is the PC, PS5 and Xbox game more than just hype?
Suddenly, out of nowhere, there is Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. This game manages to blow many gamers away. But is it hype, or is the game really that good?
WANT editor Jeroen Kraak has put quite a few hours into the game, but is far from finished. How good is the game really?
Is Kingdom Come: Deliverance II really that good?
I’m really a fan of RPGs myself. Games like Skyrim, Final Fantasy and The Witcher consumed quite a bit of my time in recent years. Now it’s back at it again with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
Because what a great game this is, to get right to the point. While you almost think it’s impossible for a smaller studio to put together an incredibly great game, Warhorse Studios really knows how to do this. You can just tell that this game was made with love.
Let’s start at the beginning. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the successor to the first part. This was a game for the real diehards, because simple it was not. Although graphically it did not look all top notch and the game was quite complicated, it managed to capture the hearts of many gamers.
Accessible
The new second part is a big improvement on that. The game is really very accessible. In a tutorial at the beginning, you immediately learn the first skills. Right away you are already put to the test with what kind of solutions you choose. You can fight, or use clever speech to influence your opponent to do something else anyway.
And that’s immediately the beauty of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The game adapts exactly how you are. Want to talk decently, but your clothes are dirty? No one will take you seriously then. The same goes the opposite way if you want to be the tough guy. Everything in the game requires you to think.
Sounds all good right? Let’s go back to the story for a moment. In the game you play Henry. In the first part, he climbed from the son of a blacksmith to the upper echelons. In the second part he accompanies Hans, a squire and at the same time good friend of Henry. Together they are off to find allies in a war over who is the right king. However, that does not go according to plan.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a true medieval simulator (and that’s a good thing)
What follows is that you have to start all the way from the bottom again and gather money in all sorts of ways. Your skills are also really in various mini-games. Think of potions brewing or weapons forging, for example. You also have to really put in the time, so you really feel that you are working for your money.
So at first, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II can actually feel like work. Maybe not something you expect with a game. But all the nicer it feels when you make progress. Still, sometimes it can make it feel like just too much delay. You also have to think about your basic needs like eating, drinking and washing yourself. Besides being an RPG, it really is a medieval simulator.
And how big is this world, it can really be called epic. Also because there is so much detail in it. You can almost compare it to Red Dead Redemption II. Everything looks great and it really makes you want to go on an adventure. When you do, you’ll also encounter the necessary sidequests. It is not an Ubisoft-like game world full of question marks, but rather a spontaneous game with lots of reactions.
You do well to think about exactly what you do and don’t do in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Characters remember what you do for a long time.

The fun part is also the way you develop your skills in this game. You don’t simply choose which abilities you improve, but rather you make them better by applying those skills. For example, if you fight with a sword, that skill improves.
Conclusion
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a game made with love. You can feel that love in everything you do. The story is well crafted and the game is made more accessible than its predecessor. It is rightfully already a big surprise of 2025.
Although there are some minor bugs in the game at times, they don’t matter much. They are not annoying and can simply be fixed even with later patches. The game world and the spontaneity in it more than make up for it. As a result, it is a game that you will definitely spend more than 100 hours with.
