You may have caught wind of it this week: a card game based on League of Legends is coming. Here’s what we know about it.
League of Legends is one of the most popular computer games of all time. The game, in which two teams compete against each other, has been around for years and still manages to attract new players. Central to the game are champions, characters that players can choose from. Each champion has its own and unique abilities, which you can use against your opponent.
The company behind League of Legends, Riot Games, is now coming out with a card game. That game is intended for fans of League of Legends, who also like to share their passion for the game outside their computer screen. The new game, Project K, features many champions that are also present in League of Legends. Also, abilities appear to be returning.
There is already a digital card game based on League of Legends
Riot Games has already released a digital card game based on League of Legends: Legends of Runeterra. Project K is not a physical version of that game, but shares features with it. In terms of theme, you immediately recognize the cards. A lot of what we know from the world of League of Legends returns.
Players compete against each other in Project K. This can be done in teams of two, for example, but you can also compete against others on your own. Riot Games hopes that eventually global as well as national tournaments can be organized, so players can meet and play competitive cards with each other.
Card game not coming to the Netherlands right away
It is easy to imagine that Riot Games will succeed in organizing events around the new card game. Scattered around the world League of legends tournaments and other physical events centered around the game have been taking place for years.
Project K is unfortunately not coming to the Netherlands right away. In China, Riot Games will release the League of Legends card game next year. It is cooperating with a Chinese publisher for this purpose. Riot Games wants to release Project K worldwide as soon as it has found a suitable publisher to do so.
What the game should cost is not clear. It is also not yet known whether Riot Games plans to market the physical card game in the Netherlands. Either way: avid fans will surely be able to order the game in China next year.
