Nintendo, meanwhile, has been tapping into the success of the first-generation Nintendo Switch for years now, of which an updated OLED variant is already available. The Switch was a huge success right after its introduction in 2017, and many Nintendo enthusiasts will have one in their homes by now.
For a long time, much was unclear about a possible successor to the handheld that you can also connect to your television. Fortunately, this has changed in recent months. For example, we have known for some time now that the Nintendo Switch 2 can also run games from the current Switch and is expected to come out early next year. A case manufacturer released more details this week.
Case maker shares design of new Nintendo Switch
Dbrand, also known for plastic skins you can stick on your smartphone, has indeed revealed its Killswitch 2 case for the new game console. The case maker’s website features a 3D render that also shows what Nintendo’s new game console will look like.
Speaking to The Verge, Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz says the company has the real dimensions of the new Switch in hand. The device would be 270 mm wide, 116 mm high, 14 mm thick and have an 8-inch screen. This makes the new device both wider and taller than the Nintendo Switch OLED. In addition, the screen is an inch larger.

Joy-Cons would be magnetically attached
According to the Dbrand boss, the Joy-Cons of the new Nintendo Switch are magnetically attached and ejectable via buttons on the back of the device. There is also a new button under the home button on the right side of the device, which has a C on it. What the button is for remains unclear. It is also not known what screen technology will be used for the new device.
The new Nintendo Switch will also get an additional usb-c port on the top of the device. That, like the other usb-c port, can be used to charge the handheld. Just like on current Switch consoles, you can play online with the new Nintendo Switch.
The new gaming console is further likely to get an Nvidia T239 chip on board. The device cannot compete with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One consoles with that processor. But the Nvidia chip does ensure that the new Nintendo Switch will be about as fast as the PlayStation 4. That leaves the Switch a less powerful console, just like the current generation of the device.
