In November of 2021, the PlayStation 5 celebrated its first birthday. In that year a lot of great games were released. Hopefully you managed to actually get the game console in your home, so you can go wild with it. That seems to remain a problem in 2022, because worldwide we see that there are still many problems with chips. And the demand for the PS5 remains high.
Anyway, if you have it, then you’re a lucky person. And there’s plenty to enjoy in the coming year. These are in our opinion five top games to look forward to. I try to mention as much as possible exclusive games for the console, but there is also one which can be played on other consoles.
5 top games for the PlayStation 5 in 2022
Horizon: Forbidden West
Appears on 18 February
The first cool PlayStation 5 game we’re expecting this year is Horizon: Forbidden West. It’s the sequel to Zero Dawn, which is still one of the best games on the PlayStation 4 to this day. Although this new part also appears on Sony’s old console, it is mainly the PS5 version that is interesting, since there you get the benefits of fast loading times and better performance. In this new adventure, you as Alloy have to deal with a planet that is dying. It’s up to her to find out what went wrong, while at the same time taking on dangerous new enemies. And it’s all in a game that looks insanely good.

Elden Ring
Appears on 25 February
A week later, you can let loose with Elden Ring on the PlayStation 5. This game will also appear on other consoles and PC. But that shouldn’t spoil the fun. It’s the new adventure from the creators of Dark Souls. While still intensely challenging, it’s good to see there’s also room for a world that’s a little less dark and bleak. There’s more room for exploration in the game, as the environments are larger. You can get to work with different types of warriors, each with their own advantages. The story is written in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, who you know as the author of the books on which Game of Thrones is based. All this together with the fact that we have already played it and were very positive about it, makes this game going to be one of a kind.

Gran Turismo 7
Released on March 4
You can’t really talk about a Gran Turismo installment until it’s been delayed at least once. And that’s obviously the case with Gran Turismo 7, which was supposed to be released on the PlayStation 5 by the end of 2021. Fortunately, we know how it often goes and we can wait a little longer. Especially when you consider that the creator seems to be going back to basics with this new installment. This means that before you can start tearing around, you’ll have to get your driving licence by completing tests in the correct manner. After that you will have to buy a car with a limited budget to complete the first races. With the extra money you can buy new cars and progress in the racing adventure. The game makes good use of the possibilities the computer offers and therefore splashes of the screen in the spring.

Ghostwhire Tokyo
This year
Ghostwhire Tokyo, like Gran Turismo 7, is a game that has been delayed before. But while the racing game has a fixed date, this one has not yet been announced. We still don’t know when we will be able to play it on PlayStation 5. The game will also be released on PC. The title is made by Tango Gameworks, who you know from The Evil Within. That studio is part of Bethesda and that company was taken over by Microsoft last year. But just like Deathloop, this deal was made before the deal with Microsoft was made and the game will appear on the PS5 as a console exclusive. It is a survival horror adventure, in which you find yourself in Tokyo. The inhabitants have all but disappeared and it’s up to the player to take on supernatural forces.

God of War Ragnarok on the PlayStation 5
This year
God of War Ragnarok is also due out this year, but we don’t have a date for it yet. In addition to the PlayStation 5, this game will also come to the PlayStation 4. The game will pick up where God of War left off. That means that the game is set in the Norse mythology again. You will once again work with Kratos, who is assisted by Atreus. They’ll face Ragnarok, which according to mythology is the end of life and the end of the Norse gods. But of course, you’re not going to put up with that. The game is supposed to mark the end of Norse mythology, after which the series is likely to go in a different direction.
