PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary, so Sony is treating with a unique feature for PlayStation 5 owners. Unfortunately, it’s a temporary thing, though.
PlayStation can be called the biggest name in gaming along with Nintendo. When Sony launched its first console in 1994, it probably didn’t expect to be so successful now with the PlayStation 5.
We are now thirty years on since that release, and that’s cause for celebration. And those with something to celebrate, treats, of course. PlayStation 5 users can now use a special feature on their console, although unfortunately it is temporary.
Your PS1 on your PlayStation 5
One of the first things you see on your PlayStation 5 is your home screen. On it are your games and various apps. You can’t avoid this special dashboard, so it’s nice to turn it into something pretty. You can set your own backgrounds, but people with a touch of nostalgia will enjoy a new feature.
As PlayStation marks its 30th anniversary, it has created some special backgrounds for the home screen. These allow you to use classic themes for the PlayStation 5, available after a special update.
After updating your PlayStation 5, you immediately notice something special. Namely, it does not start up with the usual screen, but with that of the PS1. Then in the settings you can find the “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” menu.
From old to new
Here you can choose from different home screens based on previous models. This applies to all generations of the console: from the PlayStation 1 to 5. In addition, a special “30th Anniversary” edition is also available.
But it’s not just a visual change on the console; the themes also feature special sound effects. Diehard PlayStation fans will instantly recognize the recognizable beeps and sounds of older models. It really adds a nostalgic feeling.
It all sounds great, but unfortunately there is a downside: these features are temporarily available. Sony has not yet indicated how long you can use them on your PlayStation 5. Hopefully the company will change its mind so we can always enjoy our favorite version.
