Sony has announced the PlayStation 5 Pro. What will it cost, when will it appear and more importantly, what will it do?
After months of rumors, Sony has just officially announced the PlayStation 5 Pro. During the Technology Presentation, Lead Architect Mark Cerny explained in nine minutes what the new console has to offer you.
As with the PlayStation 4, the Pro model of the PS5 is also obviously a lot more powerful. But what exactly are we talking about?
PlayStation 5 Pro takes PS5 to the next level
It’s getting technical, but one thing is clear: the PlayStation 5 Pro is a lot more powerful than Sony’s current console. This is due to three factors: a bigger GPU, improved raytracing and artificial intelligence.
The PS5 Pro has received hardware that allows it to render 45 percent faster than the current console. In practice, you mainly notice that playing games feels smoother due to an increased frame rate and that more details can be seen. Think leaves in trees or buildings in the background that look just a little slicker.

Raytracing is also easier to use thanks to the extra processing power. According to Sony, even two or sometimes three times better than the current console, giving developers more incentive to take advantage of the feature.
In addition, the PS5 Pro also uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. A mouthful for AI-driven upscaling that can lift the image quality and frame rate of games with ease, giving gamers a better gaming experience.
This is how much the PlayStation 5 Pro will cost
The PlayStation 5 Pro is coming to the Netherlands and will go on sale from November 7, 2024. The price is 799.99 euros excluding the vertical stand to stand the console upright.
Note that where the PS5 still uses a disc drive option, the PlayStation 5 Pro does not. So you will have to bring in and play all your games digitally.
