Sony held its first PlayStation Showcase in a long time yesterday. There, a lot of new games and gadgets passed by for the PlayStation 5. But which ones are we most looking forward to? Here’s our ideal list.
Sony rarely holds a PlayStation Showcase. Yesterday was the second, and the first dates back to prior to the release of the PlayStation 5. As such, a lot of new games and gadgets passed by again.
The most special announcements at the PlayStation Showcase
But which Playstation 5 announcements really stole the show? Here they come:
#1 Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Rumors were already rife about a Metal Gear Solid remake, but this one turns out to be more extensive than expected. Instead of just Metal Gear Solid 3, 1 and 2 are also being remastered.
Fortunately, Konami also came out with an announcement trailer for PlayStation 5. Considering Metal Gear Solid is great, so we can’t wait to replay the entire adventure with the graphics and mechanics of this era.
#2 Phantom Blade Zero on PlayStation 5
It was expected that a second installment of The Ghost of Tsushima would be announced. It didn’t come in the end, but another promising samurai game has been announced for PlayStation 5 that looks really great.
During the three-minute trailer, we see a bleak world full of dark scum. Especially the battles look really promising. When this game will be released for PlayStation 5 is unfortunately not yet known.
#3 Marathon
Bungie, of course, we know mostly from Halo and Destiny. Sony acquired the studio in July of last year for $3.7 billion. Now the company is showing plans for the studio for the first time. A new game called Marathon is being developed. This is presumably set in the same universe of Destiny. The game is planned to come to both the PlayStation and Xbox Series X.
No, you won’t be running 42 kilometers in this game. We see in the trailer what we have come to expect from Bungie: a shooter that is well put together. In any case, the visuals promise a lot.
#4 Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Well, it’s no real surprise that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is coming, but we now see new footage of the game set in Baghdad. In this game, Basim has the lead role that we already saw by in Valhalla.
Ubisoft was told by many fans of Assassin’s Creed that the latest games were too far from the original. Whereas before it was mostly about stealth, the newer games are mostly RPGs. With Mirage, the series goes back to its roots as we see in the trailer. The game should be released Oct. 12 this year.
#5 Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5
It was an open secret that Sony would show new images of Spider-Man 2 during this Showcase and so here they are. Expectations for the second part are high because both Part 1 and Miles Morales are amazingly put together.
In this new part, you can play both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. In addition, the game has also gotten bigger. You can now flit off Manhattan and into Queens, for example. In addition, much has also remained the same. So expect some spectacular battles on your PlayStation 5.
#6 Alan Wake 2
True gamers will remember Alan Wake. The first part, which is now thirteen years old, was a mix between horror, adventure and action. During the showcase, we also saw part two for the PlayStation 5.
In the new trailer, we see how an FBI agent searches for the missing Alan. Both characters are also playable in the game. How this will all play out we will see when the game releases on Oct. 17.
#7 New PlayStation 5 hardware.
In addition to games, the PlayStation Showcase also featured new hardware. For example, Sony is coming out with a Project Q, a handheld where with an 8-inch HD screen on which you play PlayStation 5 games. Unfortunately, there is one drawback to the device. It only works with Remote Play over Wi-Fi. So taking the game console with you on the go is out of the question.
In addition, Sony also announced new earbuds for the PlayStation 5. What’s special about these earbuds is that they support lossless audio. This should benefit gaming, but we have some headaches about latency. We’ll see.
