After Mario, another well-known Nintendo mascot gets his own movie. Nintendo is far from finished in the movie world.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie came as a surprise to many. After all, Nintendo showed up in Hollywood again after a long time. And with success, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a hit.
That the movie about Nintendo’s most famous character is getting a sequel is obvious. Surprisingly, Mario is not the only Nintendo character getting a movie in the near future.
The Legend of Zelda gets its own movie
Mario is arguably Nintendo’s most famous mascot. After the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo has already revealed that they are working on a sequel to the animated film. They did so in a their weekly “company briefing.
In that briefing, Nintendo gave quite a few updates “regarding visual content. You don’t have to be a scholar to understand that this refers to their movies. Nintendo had even attached a homemade infographic to this information.

And that does make it very clear to the rest of the world. In addition to a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, we’re getting a movie about The Legend of Zelda. In other words: Nintendo is far from finished in Hollywood.
Film industry offers Nintendo more opportunities than ever
Many details about the Zelda movie were unfortunately not given by the game company. Nor did it specify a possible release date. In fact, the attached infographic read “202x. That means we will get to see the movie sometime in the next five years.
A plot and which writers, actors or directors are involved in the project is also still unclear. The film is probably still at too early a stage for that. Still, it is extraordinary to see a film about The Legend of Zelda announced.
It means that Nintendo certainly does see opportunities in the film industry. The last attempt they made was in the 1980s. There are quite a few comic stories about those Nintendo movies. By the way, they are taking it differently now than they did with The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The Legend of Zelda movie will be a live-action one
Unlike the Mario movie, the Zelda movie will be a live-action. This is a bold choice. After all, an animated movie offers the opportunity to make the characters look just like they do in the games.
That gives viewers a sense of confidence. A live-action carries the danger that for some viewers the characters may be too different from the original. It’s a risk Nintendo apparently dares to take.
And it’s allowed, too. With the Mario movie, Nintendo saw that there was a lot of appetite for movies about their beloved mascots. The Mario movie was a hit with old fans and young children alike. A movie about the world’s most famous gaming character proved extremely lucrative.
