The bar was set high with the games of 2023. Fortunately, last year was packed with rock-solid games. Here are the biggest recommendations from 2024.
2024 was an extraordinary year of the game industry in many ways. Gigantic acquisitions, bizarre gaming flops and a whole lot of rock solid games. With the gaming awards behind us, it’s time to pick this year’s best games.
PlayStation, Xbox ánd Nintendo released a lot of cool games this year. That doesn’t make the choice any easier for us. In our opinion, these are the best games of last year.
The best games of 2024
Following the banner year that was 2023, with games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2, the bar was set high for games this year. Yet one great game after another appeared. In our opinion, these games may call themselves the best of 2024:
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
With his iconic hat and whip, Indiana Jones appeared just in time to be among the best games of 2024. Those who are big fans of the movies of the same name will certainly not get enough of this game. Lucky for Game Pass users: the game was immediately playable on day one.

You can’t get closer to a true Indiana Jones experience. Brawls with villains, intriguing puzzles, exotic environments and plenty of secrets to unravel. Not only does the game look stunning, but the sound and soundtrack are cinematic. The game is so much fun, our hero would say, “It belongs in a museum!”
Helldivers 2
It is rare for relatively unknown games to become such a huge cult hit within days of its release. Many gamers were unfamiliar with Helldivers, but with the release of Helldivers 2, millions of players went to battle against aliens and robots.
Although the game’s popularity steadily declined again, the impression it made in the gaming world is certainly noteworthy. The developers are adding new content almost monthly and the game remains a hit on Steam and PlayStation. Popping off aliens has never been more entertaining.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
The Legend of Zelda had completely reinvented itself with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. How could a new game ever top this? Echoes of Wisdom makes a damn good attempt. The combination of the cute chibi style with lots of freedom is a golden combination.

Also, the fact that you are playing as Zelda herself for the first time is a nice touch. You are forced to play the game in a completely different way than you are used to from the series. With fun puzzles, practically infinite solutions and surprisingly good graphics, Echoes of Wisdom is another rock-solid addition to the Nintendo Switch catalog.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The mix between action and turn-based combat has a new fresh character in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is still Final Fantasy VII as we know it, but with so many improvements and additions that it is practically a new game.
Not only the graphics have been improved, but the entire engine of the game has been polished up once. The game will appeal to newcomers, but loyal fans will also marvel at FFVII Rebirth: you can explore the world in a completely new way. For fans of the genre, this is a must-play.
Black Myth: Wukong
Fans are still a little disappointed that the game did not become Game of the Year. That doesn’t make the game any less so. It is a challenging game very reminiscent of Dark Souls, but with a whole new look.

The gameplay and graphics are tight and the story entertaining. The battles with bosses draw the most attention. Sometimes frustrating, always great to see. The feeling when you epically beat such a big bad guy to a pulp is unmatched.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Magical, tactical and challenging. Dragon’s Dogma 2 won’t be for everyone, but anyone who enjoys challenging games at all will easily lose hundreds of hours in the game. It’s a reinterpretation of all the great ideas from the 2012 cult classic, including a dynamic world and some of the best combat in the genre.
The game had some bugs at the beginning, but they have been expertly eliminated. What remains is one of the best fantasy games of recent years: an action RPG that many other games can learn from.
Astro Bot
This PlayStation mascot raked in the Game of the Year award. Not unfairly, as Sony showed that creative platformers are not just for Nintendo. Astro Bot is nothing revolutionary, but it improved everything that seemed wrong with platformers.
The game is bursting with creativity and each level is original to its core. The game is also full of fun references to PlayStation 5 games. For example, in one level you encounter Kratos from God of War. Whether you think the GOTY award is justified or not, Astro Bot is one of the best games to appear on the PlayStation 5.
