Sony held a new State of Play last night, showcasing yet-to-be-released PlayStation 5 content. We list the most important announcements.
For PlayStation 5 owners, the State of Play events are one of the most important of the year. They show exactly what Sony is working on for the console.
Some games we’ve never heard of, while others get a new trailer. So you really have an idea of what’s coming your way in the near future.
You can expect these new PlayStation 5 games soon
Once again, a lot of new games are being shown off. We list the most important ones for you, including the trailer.
Saros
Sony manages to surprise us with Saros. This game comes from Sony studio Housemarque, which previously made the successful PlayStation 5 title Returnal. Saros could be an evolution of that game. Again, this is a roguelike, where you will die quite often, but take away progression each time. The game should be released in 2026.
Mindseye
This is really a game to keep an eye on. It comes from a GTA V producer, so expectations are sky-high. This action-adventure thriller is about a soldier living in the near future. He arrives in Redrock, a city located in the desert. There, he encounters all sorts of enemies that he must make a head start. The game comes out this summer, making it an ideal warm-up for GTA 6.
Tides of Annihilation
This action-adventure game takes you to two worlds: modern Loneden and mythical Avalon. In this game, you play with Gwendolyn, who has the powers to summon special magical knights. When the game will be released on the PlayStation 5 is still unknown.
Metal Eden
Looking at the gameplay, this game might remind you of Doom in a sci-fi jacket. Instead of monsters, you deal with aliens and robots. You can play it on your PlayStation 5 as early as May 6.
Days Gone Remastered
Days Gone was a hit on the PlayStation 4, but never really got the credit it deserved. Now, to bring back the vibe anyway, a remaster is coming to the PlayStation 5. Go for a ride on your motorcycle and blast some zombies.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds is on the verge of release, as it arrives on the PlayStation 5 on Feb. 28. To get in the mood in advance, creator Capcom shared the launch trailer during State of Play. You’ll be hunting all kinds of monsters as usual.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
One of perhaps the biggest drawbacks of the PlayStation 5 is that you can’t play Mario Kart on it. Fortunately, though, a replacement is coming in the form of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Instead of playing with Mario characters, you now do (too) crazy races with Sonic characters. When it comes out is still unknown.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid is a legendary series and Part 3 is perhaps one of the best in the series. This game is from 2004, but is now getting a refresh. The game has been remade and you can play it on your PlayStation 5 starting August 28, 2025.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger
You used to have Digimon on television in addition to Pokémon. This series is still a big hit in Japan, while we have actually forgotten about it here. Digimon Story: Time Stranger is the ideal game to pick that up again. In this game, you have monsters fighting for you and you have to protect the world. Sometime in 2025, the game will be released.
Lost Soul Aside
Is Digimon not enough? Then if you are an RPG lover, you can also indulge in Lost Soul Aside for the PlayStation 5. The creator has paid particular attention to the battles. These look flashy, fast and smooth. This will make you not want to put down your controller. The game will be released on May 30.
Hell is Us
This name honors the PlayStation 5 game. This is an action-adventure game set in a land destroyed by war. The player must explore the dark side of this world to find out where this chaos came from. You can play it starting September 5.
Borderlands 4
After the particularly bad movie, it’s time for a new Borderlands game. The creators dropped a launch trailer during State of Play, in which we learn more about the gameplay. The release date has also been announced: Sept. 23, 2025. A real dare, when you consider that GTA 6 is also due out in the fall, which is likely to gobble up all game sales.
Split Fiction
It Takes Two is arguably the best co-op game out there. The creators of that hit now come up with Split Fiction: a game in which two writers get stuck in the world they created themselves. An ideal PlayStation 5 game to play with your partner or a friend. It will be on sale from March 6.
Directive 8020
Want to be really shaky on your couch? Then Directive 8020 is the game you should buy for your PlayStation 5. This one is about the crew of the research ship Cassiopeia. After waking up from a four-year sleep, they face a shipwreck and a murder. On Oct. 2, you can see for yourself how this ends.
