These are the very worst PlayStation 5 games of 2024

The PlayStation 5 has a lot of great games. These games are definitely not among them. These are the worst games of 2024.

The past year was again full of extraordinary games. From Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, to the success of Astro Bot. There were plenty of great games to play on your brand new PlayStation 5 Pro.

With the holidays approaching, you may still be in doubt about which PlayStation 5 games to put on your wish list. At least make sure it’s not these games; they’re better forgotten about as soon as possible.

These PlayStation 5 games are best forgotten as soon as possible

There have been plenty of great games released this year. Then it’s easy to lose track of which games are worthwhile or not. Either way, these games for the PlayStation 5 have flopped and you’d rather leave them out.

Alone in the Dark

This game should revive the game series of the same name. Alone in the Dark pioneered the survival-horror genre. Even before games like Resident Evil really took off, Alone in the Dark was already creating nightmares.

The remake for the PlayStation 5 received quite a bit of hype prior to its release. Partly because a well-known Stranger Things actor would be playing in it. Once the game was out, it turned out to be a product that was actually better left alone in the dark. The play barely resembled the original and the gameplay didn’t even resemble Alone in the Dark anymore.

Concord

The only positive thing about Concord is that it broke a record: never before has Sony pulled the plug on a game so soon after release. The game was supposed to be a mix between the popular free games Overwatch 2 and Apex Legends. The 40 euro price tag proved too high a barrier for many gamers, especially with the free alternatives.

Particularly few gamers played Concord, so few that Sony actually made no profit on it. Although the gameplay was received fairly positively, the game was completely lost on the marketing front. Two weeks after its release, Sony took it offline.

Lego Horizon Adventures

When Lego Horizon Adventures was announced, many gamers looked at each other a bit puzzled. A Lego variant of one of the most popular PlayStation 5 games ever? Okay? Whether the creators were following the Lego trend of Fortnite or wanted to make Horizon Forbidden West appealing to a younger audience is still not entirely clear.

So the game is a retelling of the original PlayStation 4 game Horizon Zero Dawn. There did not appear to be much enthusiasm for the game as the game flopped financially. The gameplay is nice, but you are much better off buying other Lego games. The Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an example of how it can be done.

Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones had a messy production process. The game was delayed several times with the promise that it would absolutely improve the gameplay. Ubisoft’s game would build on the success the pirate gameplay made popular in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.

But in all the time the game was in production, the pirate hype subsided a bit. When the game finally came out after 11(!) years, you barely saw any of the long development time. The game was superficial, full of bugs and quickly became boring. To this day, the now 11-year-old Black Flag is still your best option for a pirate game.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

This game from DC Comics was promising. The graphics were top notch, the storyline (seemed) good and the gameplay tight and fluid. Unfortunately, only the graphics were top notch. In this PlayStation 5 game, you would take control of the Suicide Squad and kill off the Justice League superheroes.

A cool pitch, but the gameplay was soon repetitive. For example, gamers noticed that some battles were very similar. Another common comment is that it is a live-service game: you depend on constant updates and an Internet connection. Well that’s not a disaster, but it is if the game was announced as a single player game. The 70 euro price tag certainly didn’t help its success.
