During The Game Awards 2024, the best games of the year are chosen. New games are also announced and trailers are shown. However, no one expected such big announcements.
At The Game Awards 2024, we saw a trailer of The Witcher 4 for the first time. But even more striking: Naughty Dog announced its new game, The Heretic Prophet. The maker of The Last of Us and Uncharted is coming out with a completely new title.
These big new games are coming
There were an awful lot of announcements during The Game Awards 2024. Announcements that completely undercut the game of the year winner, Astro Bot.
The Last of Us and Uncharted creator Naughty Dog’s new game: The Heretic Prophet
First and foremost, we have to talk about The Heretic Prophet, an announcement no one saw coming. After years of The Last of Us and Uncharted games, Naughty Dog is finally coming out with a completely new game.
The Heretic Prophet is set thousands of years in the future. The game centers on Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter stranded on a planet called Sempiria. This planet has been shielded from the rest of the universe for 600 years. Her mission is to escape from this planet, but some robots are trying to prevent it.
The Witcher 4
Another unexpected announcement was the trailer for The Witcher 4. We knew the game was in development, but we hadn’t seen anything yet. Until now, because during The Game Awards we saw six minutes of the game, starring Ciri in particular.
Expect everything you’re used to from The Witcher: a large fantasy world with mythological opponents that will scare the hell out of you.
A new Elden Ring game: Nightreign
Those who think that after Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is done with games, are wrong. There will be a special stand-alone game in 2025. Meet Nightreign, a game designed specifically for co-op.
Borderlands 4
Let’s face it: the Borderlands movie was a complete fiasco. Perhaps creator Gearbox had hoped that the movie would actually boost the games. Still, the game series stands on its own as a series of entertaining games. As such, a fourth installment is coming. Although that part was announced a few months ago, we now get a better idea thanks to the first trailer.
The Outer Worlds 2
The first installment of The Outer Worlds was a huge success. Makes sense, since it is the same studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, one of the best games in that franchise. Now we see gameplay footage of the second part for the first time. Although the first part was an Xbox exclusive, the second part is also just coming to the PlayStation 5.
Mafia: The Old Country
Finally, we close this list with an iconic game series: Mafia. This game should come out in 2025 and, like the Like a Dragon game, delves into history. To be exact: Sicily in 1900. Expect real Mafia action in a setting you just want to explore.
