Why this Marvel Rivals character deserves his own game

Jeff the Landshark is a beloved newcomer for many Marvel fans. All the more reason this little shark deserves his own game.

Marvel Rivals was an instant hit right after its launch. The heroshooter brought together our favorite Marvel heroes in large and chaotic brawls.

Among the familiar faces like Iron Man and Captain America, we also saw some unknown heroes. One of them conquered the hearts of many Marvel fans worldwide. And that’s why this character deserves his own game. Meet Jeff the land Shark.

Marvel Rivals brings a lot of new faces

Even those who have seen the occasional loose Marvel movie here and there will recognize characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man and maybe even Groot. But even big fans of the Marvel movies will see some playable heroes in Marvel Rivals for the first time.

Since most of the characters Marvel has come up with have not yet appeared in a movie or game, you may have had to google who Namor, Magic, Psylocke and Squirrel Girl were.

Newcomer Jeff the Landshark immediately caught the eye. Practically no one had heard of this cute little fish. Online, Jeff is being compared to other cute Marvel/Disney characters like Baby Yoda (Grogu) and Baby Groot. But where did this little creature come from?

This is where Jeff the Landshark comes from

Logically, Jeff finds his origin somewhere in a comic book. It is a fairly new character, unlike, for example, Namor who was one of the first heroes of. Jeff came to life in West Coast Avengers Vol. 3 (2018). There, he was brought to life by the villain MODOK.

So Jeff was meant to be a villain. The little shark was never able to do much damage: MODOK was defeated by the West Coast Avengers. The creature was adopted by Gwen Poole – who named him after one of her kittens – and trained as a superhero.

Jeff was mostly a background character where he occasionally hobbled along with other heroes such as Kate Bishop and even Deadpool. In 2021, he got his own mini-series of comic books called It’s Jeff! Since then, this land shark has been one of the cutest creatures in the Marvel universe.

Why a Jeff game would be great

So what makes Jeff so special to deserve his own game. His popularity alone could mean a big sales boost for Marvel, the superhero group could go several directions in terms of game.

Think of a cute game like Untitled Goose Game or Goat Simulator starring Jeff would be great. A more story-based game like Stray, or even something with more action could also work well. Especially since Marvel has more of a presence in the gaming market now.

For example, a Wolverine game is likely to be released this year. Still, Marvel needs to prove itself more in the gaming world first. Their previous games, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, were fairly big flops. Let’s not wish Jeff such a fate.
