Are you anxiously awaiting the Nintendo Switch, then you’re not the only one. But your patience will be sorely tested for now.
Personally, I can’t wait for the Nintendo Switch 2, because it’s high time for major upgrades to the console. 4K graphics and a more powerful processor are no luxury.
Still, we seem to have to wait at least until April 2025 before the console hits the market. At least, if all goes well.
Waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2
Game enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the Nintendo Switch 2, now that the Japanese company has officially announced that the console is in the pipeline.
But for now, the moment is not yet here and we will have to wait until April. So reports Chris Dring, the head of GameIndustry.biz, a platform for developers. In fact, according to him, the console will not be released this financial year.

Dring gets his information from conversations with several developers. All of those developers have informed him that they are no longer expecting the Nintendo Switch 2 for this financial year. He says hopes are pinned on April or May, but this is far from certain.
Earlier, Nintendo boss Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the successor will still be announced this financial year. So that means before April 2025. So it’s still possible, but that doesn’t say anything about the release date.
Will the Nintendo Switch 2 appear in April or May?
Still, spring could be a good time for Nintendo to launch the Switch 2. The previous Switch came out in March 2017. That was probably for a different reason then, though, since the Wii U sold poorly. That way, the annual figures could still be polished up a bit. However, the current Switch is still selling well. So Nintendo really doesn’t need to polish its numbers.
In addition, spring is also a convenient date in terms of publicity. A new edition of Grand Theft Auto is finally coming out in the fall. GTA 6 is presumably going to gobble up a lot of media attention, which may overshadow the Nintendo Switch 2 a bit. And let’s face it, secretly we’re also hoping for spring so we can get our hands on a new Mario, Metroid or Pokémon game as soon as possible.
