Today is the day of the release of the new Apple HomePod, but we’re already looking further into what’s to come in the audio field. For example, we now know more about the AirPod Max 2 and the HomePod mini. Here’s when to expect them.
Audio is an important part of Apple. That goes beyond Apple Music on your iPhone or iPad, of course. So the tech giant has quite a few different audio products in its lineup such as AirPods and the HomePod, not counting Beats headphones. But when are new versions coming?
Waiting for the Apple AirPods Max 2 and new HomePod mini
Someone who has the answer to that is trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He made statements on Twitter today about a new HomePod mini and the AirPods Max 2. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a while for that.
Kuo does not expect Apple to further overhaul its audio lineup until the second half of 2024 and the first half of 2025. The analyst thinks that around that time the new HomePod mini and the AirPods Max 2 will go into mass production.
Who is Ming-Chi Kuo?
Ming-Chi Kuo is an analyst at TF International Securities and also one of the most reliable sources on Apple and all its products. He doesn’t have a 100% score, but when Kuo says it, the information is at least to be taken seriously.
Will anything else come first?
That means there is quite a gap between the first and second generation of the HomePod mini and the AirPods Max. In fact, the first versions of these products hit the market in 2020. So a successor will be at least four years away from launch.

Still, there may be another Apple audio product coming to market sooner. For example, there are rumors about the AirPods Lite. This is supposed to be a budget model of the earbuds. These may well appear earlier than the Max and the HomePod mini. It is possible that Apple will be under $100 in this, but that remains to be seen.
