Apple drops new firmware versions for both your AirPods and AirTags

Consumers with a set of AirPods, Apple headphones or an AirTag in their homes can expect an update for their accessories. The American company is providing the products with new firmware versions that seem to solve the necessary problems.

Regarding the AirTag, consumers should keep an eye on firmware version 2A24e. For the AirPods, we are dealing with version 5B58.

Apple drops update for AirPods

It doesn’t matter exactly which model of the AirPods you own. The AirPods (second-generation and third-generation), Pro (first-generation and second-generation) and Max (Apple’s headphones) all get version 5B58. Exactly what the update does is not entirely clear, but Apple does let it be known that the problems have been fixed.

The chances that problems with noise cancellation, mainly for the AirPods Max, have been fixed are slim. Since May, the beloved functionality has become less powerful, causing commentary. Although the decision does not seem to come entirely from Apple itself:

To check if your AirPods already have the correct firmware version you can do the following:

On your iPhone, go to Settings
Then choose General
Select the Info option
Then press the AirPods model connected to the iPhone
Next to firmware version you can see which version is being used.

Unfortunately, Apple is not yet providing a way to perform the update manually. So this will be done completely automatically.

AirTag also gets new firmware version

In addition to the AirPods, Apple has also updated its AirTag, the company’s well-known tracker. At issue is firmware version 2A24e.

Apple also doesn’t make it entirely clear what exactly is different about the AirTag, but it does reveal that problems have been fixed. So you’ll have to see in practice if there really is a big difference in daily use.

As with the AirPods, by the way, it is possible to check exactly what version number the tracker has:

Open the Find My app on your iPhone
Select the Objects tab
Then press on your AirTag
Press the name of your tracker
