Apple has just presented the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. They are the tech giant’s two flagships, but besides many similarities, there are differences between the two new high-end smartphones.
For months the rumors had been buzzing, but now the two top models in Apple’s iPhone 14 series are finally seeing the light of day. Of course, they are an upgrade from last year’s iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, but how do they differ this year?
iPhone 14 Pro Max bigger than the Pro
Thanks to its larger size, the iPhone Pro Max also has a larger battery and thus longer battery life than the Pro just like the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. But anyway, both phones have impossibly good cameras.

There are also similarities
There are a number of differences but also similarities. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are both available in four beautiful colors: silver, gold, dark purple and black.

In terms of specs, the two screens are similar (although that of the Pro Max is larger). Both have displays that are brighter than the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screens. The new screens are up to 1600 nits and up to 2000 nits in sunlight or bright light. Apple has again used OLED technology which makes black really black, which is especially nice when watching a movie, gaming, or even reading on your phone.
1Hz refresh rate for the first time
Last year, Apple introduced ProMotion refresh rates. This made the refresh rate of the screen variable, from 10Hz to 120Hz. That meant the screen was only as fast when needed (also good for your battery). Now Apple has widened that from 1Hz to 120Hz and that has everything to do with the new always-on screen. Because who needs that speed to only briefly check the time or widgets on the lock screen?

Under the hood
In addition, both the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max run on the A16 Bionic chip. This has a powerful 6-Core CPU (2 high performance cores and 4 high efficiency cores), thus faster than the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus that use the A15 chip.
This year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will again get 6GB of RAM, but is faster than last year’s models. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get LPDDR5 instead of LPDDR4X of the 13 Pro and Pro Max. The biggest advantages of LPDDR5 is that it handles artificial intelligence, machine learning, low latency gaming and 5G cloud computing faster.
New notches and cameras on the iPhone Pro and Pro Max
The TrueDepth cameras on the front have now been given a smaller notch. Initially rumored to be two separate notches, this is not the case. It now (sort of) consists of one section.
As for the cameras on the back of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, they have been updated both hardware and software wise compared to the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max (Plus). The biggest change is the standard “wide” sensor. This makes a huge jump from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels with an f/1.78 aperture and 2.44 um pixels. So excel like previous models that are now even used by filmmakers.
