Apple is no longer one of the best companies to work for, according to Glassdoor

For years, Apple was among the best companies in the world to work for as an employee. For more than a decade, the Glassdoor Top 100 had reserved a spot for the American company in its annual list. This year, however, that is not the case.

The Glassdoor Top 100 was released last week, and American news broadcaster CNBC noticed that two big names are missing. Both Apple and Meta are no longer among the 100 best companies to work for. Something that can be called, to say the least, quite striking.

Apple missing from Glassdoor Top 100

Both Meta and Apple already underperformed in last year’s edition. Whereas Mark Zuckerberg’s company could still be found at spot 11 in 2021, it suddenly found itself at spot 57 last year. Apple was in spot 31 in 2021 and dropped to spot 56 last year.

In the 2023 Glassdoor Top 100, both companies are completely missing from the list. That’s saying something, because the listing is based on reviews that come from employees themselves. The people have spoken, so to speak.

Daniel Zhao, chief analyst at Glassdoor, confirms that the absence of both companies is very striking. Apple has been a regular name on the list for the past 15 years, where Meta has been there since 2011. Mark Zuckerberg’s company has even held the number one position once during that time.

The Glassdoor Top 100?

The Glassdoor Top 100 is the list of the best companies you can work for. Based entirely on the reviews (and experiences) of hundreds of thousands of employees. The one company of 2023 is Gainsight.

So is it suddenly a bad place to work?

Does a listing in the Glassdoor Top 100, or lack thereof, actually say that Apple and Meta are bad companies to work for? According to Daniel Zhao, that is all but the case. “It’s not saying that Apple and Meta are bad companies, it’s just that they’re doing a little less,” he said. Something that, according to the analyst, also certainly has to do “with the fact that the list is extremely competitive this year.”

It doesn’t say Apple and Meta are bad companies

Both Apple and Meta seem to be falling short on COVID-19. The strict rules for working from home, and the harsh requirements in releasing them, is causing employee dissatisfaction.

Although with Mark Zuckerberg’s company, it may also be due to the fact that it laid off 13% of its employees last November. We’re just shouting something…
