Apple is not ready for 2022 five things were still

Apple is not ready for 2022: five things we’re still getting!

Apple’s hardware products have all seen the light of day by now. But is Apple sitting dormant? Far from it: here are five new services still to be rolled out in 2022.

Don’t expect (of course) a new iPhone or iPad to be released by Apple just yet. But the tech company is certainly not sitting still.

Apple has five more cool things in store for 2022

That we don’t get to enjoy new Apple hardware again is not surprising. Still, the Cupertino-based company is not sitting on an office chair wobbling around until next year, according to a few pledges. The lion’s share of new announcements are software and services-based, so we’re somewhat excited.

#1 Apple comes out with iOS 16.2

This new firmware for the iPhone is in beta for now but is expected to be released in December 2022. Thus, we can expect the new Whiteboard app, get a tad new user graphical interface, enjoy Live Activities for sports via the Apple TV app and take advantage of Sleep and Medication widgets on the home screen.

In addition to iOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, watchOS 9.2 ánd tVOS 16.2 are also scheduled for the same month. The latter now allows Siri use for multiple users, making your experience a bit more personal, as Siri doesn’t go off when your roommate asks something.

Which Siri is still going to do, because it’s Siri.

#2 Promised but not yet online: SOS via satellite

Apple proudly announced at its launch that “people” (read Americans) will soon be able to use SOS calls and messages via satellite. However, this feature has been a while in coming.

The feature is probably already available in update 16.1.1, but it’s more likely that we’ll have to wait a while for iOS 16.2. And so we in Europe all the way, but then again, it’s not like we need it on the Veluwe or Texel.

#3 Beautiful classical music in iTunes

Apple announced back in August last year that it has bought Primephonic. It is a music service that focuses mainly on classical music. This app has still not surfaced in updates, but since code could already be found about this service in iOS 15, it is to be expected that it will still come out this year.

#4 Being allowed to repair yourself by Apple

The company has been under fire for quite a while for holding off on so-called self-service repair. This means that you are allowed to repair your own device or have a third party do it for you. It has partially backtracked on that.

Now Apple is going a bit further by indicating that these capabilities will be released in multiple countries. This makes it possible to purchase Apple processors, for example, if they need to be replaced. That’s a big deal, because for some time the company prohibited third-parties from purchasing parts for repair.

#5 Apple jumps on the Black Friday bandwagon in 2022

For some time, the company had already been working on the phenomenon of Black Friday and Cyber Monday (where on and around Nov. 25, electronics can be bought for much less money). In fact, you got vouchers for little to buy new Apple products, for example.

Once again this year, on and around Black Friday, it is possible to buy Apple products for a relative bargain. We do warn happy shoppers about the following; there is a good chance that you can find the same products at Amazon, for example, for less money.
