Keeping all your Apple devices up to date is very important. That way you stay safe and use the important and cool features. That’s why Apple is coming out with an update for a product you wouldn’t really expect: the MagSafe 3 cable.
OMT almost always informs you about important updates to the iPhone, Mac, iPad or Apple Watch, for example. But we suspect this is the first time we’ve notified you to take a moment to update your cable.
Apple updates your MagSafe cable but doesn’t say why
By now we’re used to Apple’s MagSafe charger getting updates anyway. Just this month, the company rolled out an update for the MagSafe Duo Charger. Late last year, the standard MagSafe charger received new firmware.
The update to the cable, however, comes out of the blue for many. It is version 10M1543 and was spotted by @aaronp613 who mentioned it on Twitter. Most curious, however, is that Apple has not announced the update. And it has not (as it normally does) released any patch notes. In other words, we have no idea what the update actually does.

Everything goes by itself
You don’t have to worry about installing the update. Apple has made sure that this is fully automatic when you attach the cable to your MacBook.
What is MagSafe?
Apple launched MagSafe technology in 2006 as a safer and more convenient way to charge MacBooks. A magnetic connector makes it easy to disconnect the cable and prevents accidental disconnection and damage to the computer. MagSafe is now back as the latest charging technology for iPhones and iPads.
MacBooks with a MagSafe 3 port include the 2022 M2 MacBook Air, 14-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later, and 16-inch MacBook Pro devices from 2021 or later.
