The Dynamic Island is the most special feature on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. But did you know it’s because of Samsung that you can use the feature? We tell you why.
There have been few changes to the iPhone’s screen in recent years. For years we had to make do with the large notch (and, by the way, still do on the “normal” 14 and 14 Plus. With the iPhone 14 Pro, however, we saw something completely different: the Dynamic Island. And all thanks to Samsung.
From notch to Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro
The iPhone’s notch certainly doesn’t deserve the beauty prize. It’s a big notch for your selfie camera and Face ID so you open your phone easily. Apple has solved this “black spot” fantastically through the Dynamic Island. Well Apple? Competitor Samsung has a big part in it.
The solution in the form of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro seems simple, but it certainly isn’t. In fact, making two holes in the screen is quite a risky process where the screen can be damaged. Apple therefore had to come up with a solution and worked with Apple to do so.
In fact, drilling the holes in the iPhone 14 Pro for the Dynamic Island can cause edge pixels to be exposed to moisture and oxygen. That, in turn, leads to damage and quality problems of the screen itself. Something Apple doesn’t want, of course.

Samsung lends Apple a hand
To make that happen, Apple has enlisted the help of Samsung. The company has been making screens for the various iPhone models for years and has a lot of experience producing screens with a hole in them.
Samsung has therefore used special Inkjet equipment for the iPhone 14 Pro’s screens to enable the Dynamic island, reports The Elec. That device builds a dam, so to speak, that separates the hole from the rest of the screen, after the touch electrodes are in place and all the imperfections are eliminated such as different heights.
Because Samsung applies the dam, the OLED screen is not damaged. By the way, LG also uses the same technique. That company only makes screens for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
