How you can use your iPhone to measure your height

Are you curious about how tall you really are, or just have questions about someone else’s height? With your new iPhone, it’s no trouble at all to find out. OMT editor Jeroen Kraak tells you exactly how.

Size doesn’t matter? Sometimes it does, but of course you need to know the right length. For that, you no longer have to fiddle with a tape measure or ruler. After all, your iPhone is enough to measure your height. You’ll never be wrong again.

Measuring height with your iPhone

To use the feature, however, you must have an iPhone with LiDAR scanner. That means iPhone 12, 13 or 14 Pro (Max) are suitable. Lengths can be measured with the Measure app already installed on your device by Apple.

Did you survive the checklist? Then now we can talk about measuring length with the iPhone. So to do this, as mentioned, open the Measurement app. Then point your phone at the person whose height you want to know. To do this, it is important that you can see the person on your screen from head to toe, otherwise the app cannot do its job.

If all that is successful, at some point you will see a line appear that goes from head to toe. You can choose whether you want to see the length in inches or centimeters. To do this, on your iPhone, go to Settings and then the Measuring app. There, choose between Imperial or Metric.

Standing or sitting

The great thing is that the Measuring app on your iPhone not only measures your height when you are standing, but sitting is no problem either. That may seem useless, but it certainly isn’t. It allows you to optimally measure the height of your desk or office chair so that you sit straight. That, in turn, is good for your back.

To measure the height precisely on the iPhone, use the button that appears in the bottom right corner of the Measuring app. That way you have the measurement right at your fingertips, which is extremely convenient.
