iBeer founder: “people got angry that there was no real beer”

Steven Sheraton is the mastermind behind one of the most popular iPhone apps ever made: iBeer. An app that allowed uncles, aunts, fathers and mothers to show off what “that hip new phone” could do for geeky things. Something that wasn’t to everyone’s liking.

In an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, Sheraton answered several questions about one of iPhone’s oldest applications ever. This included whether he ever had to deal with negativity.

People pissed, due to lack of beer

Steven Sheraton received several questions during the session on Reddit. Among other things, he was asked if he faced any difficulties while making the app. A question to which he gave a hilarious answer. While many people could undoubtedly see the fun in iBeer, there were also users who were less satisfied.

“It was difficult at times because we had to make our own fluid simulator. We did that with the help of physicists. Oh well, and then of course you had people who got really super angry about the fact that there was no beer coming out of their iPhone.”

Sheraton drops the hilarious story in between, but will come back to it later. One user of the platform reveals that the app caused him to fall in love with the iPhone. “Fortunately, by the way, you were smart enough not to expect a real beer,” he says. “Man, the fun we had at the reactions in the App Store and on YouTube.”

Ask Me Anything?

Ask Me Anything, also known as AMA, is a popular concept on Reddit. Greats and people with certain professions let users of the platform ask questions. They take the time to answer them, for a set period of time. Think about an hour or a day.

iBeer good for millions

What Steve Sheraton is also laughing at is his bank account. Despite the few people who actually expected beer from an iPhone, iBeer really did grow into one of the most popular apps ever made. He doesn’t say exactly how much he earned from it, but “a couple of million dollars” is what he got. Steve managed to convert about $20,000 a day in its heyday.

Meanwhile, apps like iBeer can no longer be found among the most popular titles on the App Store. Wondering which apps are doing a damn good job? Then check out the article above.
