Apple has made the first beta version of iOS 15.4 available to developers. This reveals what Apple has in store for the iPhone. At least with regard to the mouth guard requirement, there is good news!

Earlier, a solution was found for the fact that Face ID did not work properly thanks to mouthguards. Consumers with an Apple Watch could also unlock their iPhone using the smartwatch. Just like with the Mac. Yet Apple seems to have an even better solution.

Face ID with mouthpiece

Apple is testing a new way for you to unlock your iPhone. Whereas Face ID previously stopped working thanks to mouthguards, the company seems to have found a solution. A screenshot, surfaced by Daily iFix founder Brandon Butch’s tweet, shows exactly how Apple envisions it.

You can use iOS 15.4 to make your iPhone recognize your face while wearing a mouthguard. To do this, consumers will need to set up facial recognition again, but this time with a mouth mask on. Apple will then focus on the unique features around your eyes, allowing the iPhone to know it’s you.

It’s a step backward for Apple, which normally offers features that simply work well, though. In the iOS 15.4 beta version, it becomes clear that Face ID will probably work a bit less well with a mouthpiece on. So the company does recommend using facial recognition without a mouthguard by default, for the right experience.

iOS 15.4 coming to your iPhone

With iOS 15.4, Apple may be bringing an arsenal of useful features and improvements to your iPhone. For example, the American company is working on a solution to the ProMotion problem. This will allow developers to use the full potential of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Where applications are currently limited to 60Hz, it will be possible to use the full 120Hz.
