The new M2 iPad Pro officially saw the light of day yesterday. This one looks great, but it is missing something: an OLED display. When can we expect those screens on the iPad though?
Yesterday was a celebration for the Apple enthusiast. A good number of products saw the light of day. Unfortunately, we did miss the MacBooks and we’re also not entirely satisfied with the tenth-generation iPad. There is also some disappointment with the new M2 iPad Pro. This one does not have an OLED screen.
The new M2 iPad Pro
Well, first let’s talk about what the new M2 iPad Pro can do. So the new model features the second-generation Apple Silicon, the chip that until now you can only find in the 2022 MacBook Air. In addition, it also has Wi-Fi 6E support.
Speaking of the screen, the 11-inch iPad Pro has a Liquid Retina display, while the 12.9-inch is just a bit better with a Liquid Retina XDR display. So that’s the same as that of the 2021 iPad Pro models.

No OLED
The big question now is when Apple will finally switch to OLED displays for the iPad Pro. Several Samsung tablets, for example, do have AMOLED, which means you have no backlight, since pixels can illuminate themselves. As a result, black is really black.
Still, there finally seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, and not behind the tablet screen. There really do seem to be OLED screens coming to the Pro models according to noted analyst Ross Young.

When will it?
In a tweet, Ross Young reveals that the earliest we can expect an iPod with an OLED screen is 2024. That applies to both 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions.
Compared to the mini-LED technology of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple’s future tablet with OLED is going to use a tandem structure of two stacks. In it, there are again two red, green and blue emission layers. This allows for greater brightness.
