Obscure, but not impossible: will the iPhone 14 get these features?

The countdown is now on to Apple’s “Far Out” event where we will see, among other things, the iPhone 14. But will these obscure features actually see the light of day?

Like every year, rumors buzz around the new iPhones. And the number increases over time. But will we actually see these four obscure features on the iPhone 14?

An iPhone 14 with USB-C?

There is a very good chance that next year’s iPhone 15 will have a USB-C connector. First, there are already Apple products with that connection, such as the iPad Pro. Second, the company is obligated to do so.

According to new regulations from the EU, tech companies must all switch to the same connection or charger. With this they hope to reduce waste.

This year’s iPhone 14 still has the Lightning connector, but the technology is old and based on USB 2.0, with a connection speed of only 480 Mbps. This Lightning port would be based on USB 3.0 with a speed of up to 5Gbps.

However, the rumor has not been confirmed by Bloomberg or Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, for example, so this can be taken with a large grain of salt.

Better battery for the iPhone 14?

In recent years, Apple hasn’t exactly made huge leaps when it comes to its battery. Still, there are persistent rumors that all iPhone 14 models will get a slightly larger battery (except for the Pro Max).

The iPhone 14 is said to get a 3,279 mAh battery compared to the iPhone 13 with a 3,227 mAh battery. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 4.352 mAh battery, but that of the Pro Max 14 will come with a 4.323 mAh battery.

Faster charging times for iPhone 14

The iPhone 13 is capable of charging at a maximum rate of 23 Watts with a 30 Watt adapter. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is capable of 27 watts.

Both the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max are rumored to be able to reach a speed of 30 Watts. But whether Apple will manage this without switching to USB-C is not entirely clear.

Reversed Wireless Charging

Ever since the iPhone 11, it has been rumored that reversed wireless charging will appear in an iPhone. From then on, patents also surfaced that this feature would actually come. As of yet, that is not the case.

Technically, the iPhone 12 and 13 are a little bit capable of reverse charging with a MagSafe Battery Pack. By inserting the Lightning cable into your phone, you also charge the battery pack through your iPhone.

Expect quite a few rumors in the near future. At least until the event on Wednesday, September 7.
