Microsoft’s OneDrive application for macOS is getting a fine update that many users have been waiting for quite a while. The app now runs a lot better on the Cupertino-based company’s new Macs. In addition, users get access to a functionality that is very, very welcome.
Microsoft explains it all in a recently published blog post. What’s up: OneDrive on macOS is finally receiving native support for computers and laptops with the Apple processors on board. That support is there for anyone who downloads and uses build 22.022 on their Mac.
OneDrive gets welcome update
The Redmond-based company goes on to announce that the native support ensures that the app will run much more stably from now on. This is because the OneDrive software can make full use of the available Apple processors. And we are of course talking about the M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max processors that are available.

In addition, macOS users will have access to native support for OneDrive sync. In the announcement, Microsoft employee Ankita Kirti reveals that Mac users have been waiting for this for a long time. “We know that macOS users have been waiting and asking for this for a long time. We are therefore extremely happy that we can finally meet the need.”
We’ve been waiting for a while
Observant readers will not have escaped the fact that Microsoft announced the update in June of 2021. Users have indeed had to wait a long time, but that is now coming to an end. The promise was that the update would appear “by the end of 2021”; but clearly, Microsoft did not meet that deadline.
OneDrive is a storage service where you park your own files in the cloud. Because the files are in the cloud – and therefore on the Internet – they are accessible from anywhere. You do need an active internet connection and the service’s app. The service is free to use.
