The announcement of the M2 MacBook Air is less than a week behind us or the first rumors about new models are already surfacing. Very fast perhaps, but no less interesting. An old acquaintance seems to be coming back.
In addition to the new 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, Apple seems to want to release not only a 15-inch model, but also the 12-inch MacBook. At least, that’s what Bloomberg reports today.
The 15-inch MacBook Air
While we thoroughly enjoyed the WWDC 2022 keynote last week, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman was already looking further afield. Thus, his sights are set on Spring 2023, when Apple will showcase its second M2 MacBook Air. According to sources familiar with the matter, the American company is preparing for a new 15-inch model. A bit larger than the variant that saw the light of day last Monday.
Should Apple actually bring a 15-inch M2 MacBook Air to market, it will be a special model. In its fourteen years of existence, the 15-inch MacBook Air will be the largest ever. Currently, that title goes to the new variant with a 13.6-inch display.
There were noises that the 15-inch model would see the light of day during WWDC 2022. Earlier, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young let it be known that this would not be the case. He too spoke of a 2023 launch.
Does M2 provide this comeback?
The biggest MacBook Air ever is cause for enthusiasm, yet it doesn’t quite steal the show today. So does the rumor, coming from Mark Gurman, that Apple is coming out with an updated 12-inch MacBook. This laptop was introduced by Apple in 2015 and put an end to it in 2019. Fully armed with an M-chip, the laptop could make a comeback.
According to Gurman, Apple is working on the new model that should see the light of day in late 2023 or early 2024.
In addition to M2 MacBook Air, Pro models will also be available
For this year, by the way, the new launches aren’t done yet either. Gurman expects Apple, later this year, to update its current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. In that case, both models will be equipped with the M2 Max chips. A logical step considering only the 13-inch MacBook Pro, including Touch Bar, will be equipped with M2.
It is still very early to talk about such things, so do take it with a grain of salt.
