5 things you need to know before you buy the Samsung Galaxy S22

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is officially a reality. After months of rumors, we not only got to admire the devices in early February, but I finally got to test it. How good is this model and what should you look for?

In this article I’m going to tell you, on the basis of five things you need to know. There are a number of things that are important to know in your search for your next smartphone. Whether this will be your next device is of course entirely up to you, but I can at least give you a little guidance. If you’re curious what the smartphones have to offer, be sure to check out the article below.

Samsung Galaxy S22: 5 things you need to know

To tell you what things to look out for with the Samsung Galaxy S22, and what things stand out, I was able to test the Plus model over the past week. Based on that experience, I think it’s good to keep an eye on the following five things:

#1 Fantastic finish

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is made of different material than its predecessor. Those who read the specifications on paper may see this as an afterthought, but it can really make or break a phone. This is also noticeable with the plus model that I have had in my hands over the past week. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is a premium phone and it feels like that (again).

Where last year a special form of plastic was chosen (I refuse to use the word glastic) the Samsung Galaxy S22 is made of glass. It does have a special coating that makes it impervious to fingerprints. The result is a phone that feels great in the hand, feels premium and looks good too. If you are hesitating to go for last year’s model, you should know that this year’s smartphone wins in terms of design.

#2 No microSD again

If you’re planning to purchase the Samsung Galaxy S22, keep in mind that you do pick up the right amount of storage capacity. As with the previous two models, it is no longer possible to increase the storage capacity with a microSD card. So you get exactly what you buy and nothing more than that.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is available with 128GB or 256GB of storage capacity. If that’s not enough for you, it’s a good idea to go for the Ultra. This model also comes with a 512GB and 1TB variant.

#3 Samsung Galaxy S22: full of updates

It hasn’t been much of a success, but things are thankfully getting better. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is getting quite a few updates before it is no longer maintained. With this, Samsung is once again breaking the curse of Android a bit. It is not perfect yet, but for the flagship, what the consumer gets is already quite an improvement.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 can in fact count on quite a bit of support in the coming years. The smartphones in the series will receive no less than four different software updates from Android. Since version 12 is on the devices at launch, you will still have access to Android 16. Samsung also gives its devices five years of security updates, which means that until 2027 you are completely safe.

#4 Magisterial display

Anyone who buys a smartphone from Samsung knows that the display is of high quality. As mentioned, I got to work with the plus model last week. That version of the Samsung Galaxy S22 features an impressive 6.6-inch FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Many people are complaining about the fact that Samsung is once again opting for an FHD+ display and not a QHD+ display this time around. This, in my opinion, creates a false image about the display. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is a fantastic device in that area and allows consumers to fully enjoy content. So it is not a limited screen, but offers pure quality. As far as I am concerned, an important part of such a product.

#5 Small step forward

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is one of the better choices you can make in the smartphone field. Unless you already own a Galaxy S21 or might want to purchase one. It’s (almost) always good to go for the most recent model, but be aware that the Galaxy S22 is not that big of a step up from its predecessor.

The new Galaxy S22 is slightly lighter, narrower and faster than its predecessor. The biggest difference is in the main camera. Where last year it was 12-megapixel, Samsung does it this time with a 50-megapixel lens. In addition, the battery with a capacity of 45W can be charged faster. However, this only applies to the Samsung Galaxy S22+ and this year you can do it with a slightly smaller battery. The S22 has a 3700mAh battery (last year 4000mAh) and the S22+ has a 4500mAh battery (last year 4800mAh).

So do some good research on exactly what the differences are and what is important to you.

Samsung Galaxy S22: all about the Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ can be called a mature and logical upgrade. Yet it is mainly the Ultra that gets the most attention. Not really surprising, because the device really is of a different caliber.
