Traveling abroad, you sometimes end up in a different time zone. Android is getting a handy feature to help you with that.
The world is divided into different time zones, which can sometimes be confusing when traveling from one country to another. Fortunately, smartphones are able to automatically adjust the time when you travel from the Netherlands to the United States, for example. To do this, they use your location data to determine where you are.
Yet sometimes confusion can still arise. For example, you might wonder if the time has already been automatically adjusted by your phone when you’ve traveled into a new country. Exactly for that situation, Android is now coming up with a new feature so that you always know if the time you see is already the correct one.
Android provides notifications when changing time zone
Indeed, a new test version of Android 16 appears to enable an option that lets you get a notification the moment your phone has changed time zones. The new functionality is not on by default, but will soon be enabled in your phone’s settings, Android Authority discovered in Android’s code.
You easily enable the new notifications by going to settings. Then, under Date & Time, you’ll find a new switch to turn on the notifications. If you no longer need the feature, you can then flip the switch again.
Unknown when feature can be used
It is not yet known when the new feature will come to Android. Google has not officially announced the new notifications yet. Since this is a test version of Android 16, it could also theoretically be that Google decides not to release the feature at all.
We also don’t yet know exactly what the notifications will look like. Android Authority was unable to find out. Therefore, we will have to wait and see. In any case, people who travel a lot will benefit. No more wondering if your phone is showing you the right time zone.
