How to get Apple Intelligence on your iPhone anyway

Apple Intelligence is coming to the iPhone in the Netherlands sooner than expected, but…

Apple Intelligence you can use on your iPhone sooner than expected. Still, there is a very small drawback you will have to deal with.

It seemed to take a very long time for Apple Intelligence to come to the European Union. That has everything to do with the Digital Markets Act. Nevertheless, we can use the service sooner than we initially thought.

Apple has now clarified when we can expect the AI in Europe. We tell you all about it.

Here’s when you can use Apple Intelligence on your iPhone

These days, AI is one of the most important features on your smartphone. For example, Android is betting full on Google Gemini, Samsung has also developed its own AI and Apple has Apple Intelligence. Yet there was something odd about the latter. The feature did not come to Europe right away because of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Now it still seems to be coming our way soon.

We already knew Apple Intelligence was coming to the Netherlands soon on the Mac. Now that macOS Sequoia 15.1 is out, you can actually use the features in the Netherlands. However, you do have to set the language to American English, as Dutch is not yet supported.

With the iPhone and iPad, however, it was a different story. Unlike the Mac, the European Union sees Apple as a dominant player with the iPhone and iPad. As a result, it had to comply with the DMA in that area. This was created by the EU to keep a party from becoming too dominant and thus promote competition. If a company fails to comply, it can run into hefty fines.

So Apple did not want to take a risk with Apple Intelligence, but there seems to be white smoke now after all. Most likely, the iPhone maker has spoken with the EU and is no longer afraid. The company therefore announces that we can expect the service in Europe as well. To be precise, that will be sometime in April.

One small drawback

Still, there is a small drawback. Apple has not yet announced when Apple Intelligence will support Dutch. Currently, the service works only in American English. Other varieties of English will be supported in December. German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish are scheduled for April. So the company is choosing the most widely spoken languages first.

So if you still want to use Apple Intelligence in April, you will have to choose one of the available languages, just as it is now on the Mac. So on the computer, you can already use it now if you have macOS Sequoia 15.1 installed and your Mac supports the feature.
