During Wonderlust, Apple finally unveiled the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. The new devices will be available in stores starting Sept. 22. Below you can read what to expect from the phones.
During Apple Wanderlust, Apple showed off the new Apple Watch and iPhone 15 models for the first time. What immediately stands out about the latter is that the 15 and 15 Plus now have the Dynamic Island. A feature we previously saw on the 14 Pro.
This is the new iPhone 15
The iPhone 15 also gets an OLED Super Retina XDR display. This one has a brightness of 2000 nits. Moreover, that screen is also stronger with the ceramic shield. You can choose from the 6.1-inch regular iPhone 15 or 6.7-inch for the 15 Plus. The phone is available in pink, yellow, green, blue and black.
The new camera system has a 48 MP main camera. There is also a 12 MP telephoto lens on the back. Even in the dark, you should be able to take great pictures with this. Colors are even richer, according to Apple.
Apple has also been working on portrait mode. You no longer have to slide for this; the phone automatically knows when you’re taking a portrait. Even with dogs and cats. In addition, you also have focus and depth control. Here you can switch where the depth should be even after the photo is taken. Colors should also come out even better in the updated night mode.
The ‘old’ A16 chip in the new phone
The iPhone 15 will get the A16 chip you already know from the 14 Pro. The battery should last a full day. The one from the 15 Plus has an even bigger battery, which will make it last longer.
The iPhone 15 has the second-generation ultra-wideband chip. This allows it to communicate with other devices even more easily. Even from 3 times farther away than the previous model could. Because the device recognizes your voice even better, phone calls are also improved. It is also possible to make calls with voice isolation.
USB-C
And there it is at last: the USB-C port. What’s more, the case of the AirPods Pro 2 also gets a USB connector. That means you can use the new charger for both the iPhone, iPad, AirPods Pro 2 and Mac.
The iPhone 15 costs $969 here and the 15 Plus starts at $1,119. It will be in stores from September 22, and it is available for pre-order now.
Meet the iPhone 15 Pro
Instead of stainless steel, the new iPhone 15 Pro is now made of titanium, which you know from the Ultra. Apple chose titanium for the iPhone 15 Pro because it is strong, durable and lightweight.
In addition, this 15 Pro also has the action button that was long speculated about. It replaces the slider on the side. You can still use it to put your phone on silent. However, you now also have access to multiple functions for which you use the button. Think of recording a voice memo.
The Dynamic Island now also provides visual feedback. Of course, familiar features like Pro Motion and the always-on screen are also present again.
The new A17 chip
Under the hood of the iPhone 15 Pro you will find the A17 chip. This has 19 billion transistors. It is the first 3nm chip in a phone. The CPU has 6-performance cores that are 10 percent faster than its predecessor. The neural engine is even 2 times faster. The new GPU has 6 cores that is 20 percent faster than its predecessor.
The USB-C port has a speed of 10 GB per second. That provides 20 times more transfer than USBC 2.
The Pro measures 6.1 inches and the Pro Max measures 6.7 inches. It has thinner screen bezels than its predecessor. Apple also says the device has the strongest screen on the entire market.
The screen also supports ray tracing, which is four times better than the A16 chip. With this, Apple aims to make the iPhone 15 Pro even more suitable for gaming. Apple is even bringing Resident Evil games and the new Assassin’s Creed to the device.
The camera of the iPhone 15 Pro
The iPhone 15 Pro has an improved 48 MP main camera, with a larger sensor. This should make it perform even better in low-light situations. You now shoot photos in 24 mm, 28 mm and 35 mm focus. You choose your own standard.
The new camera in the Pro Max has a 5x zoom telephoto camera. It shoots with a focus of 120 mm. This kind of camera normally needs huge lenses, but the special tetrapism design makes this possible in the phone. In addition, the 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens is also present. This has also been further improved again.
Filming is done like a true professional on the iPhone 15 Pro. It can film in 4K60 Pro Res. This should allow for immersive slow motions.
It is now even possible to film in 3D with the iPhone 15 Pro if you turn the phone a quarter turn. This is obviously meant for the Apple Vision Pro, so you can relive moments in 3D.
The iPhone 15 Pro has a starting price of 1,229 euros. The 15 Pro Max will cost a minimum of 1,479 euros. From Friday you can pre-order it after which it will be delivered on September 22.
