Four years after the company introduced its last Android smartphone it is returning. Today HTC announces that it will launch a brand new model later this month.
It’s not a very big surprise to fans who have been keeping a close eye on developments. Back in early March, the company announced that it would be coming out with a new flagship. Today we actually know more.
HTC returns with new Android flagship
After the HTC U12+, a smartphone released on May 23, 2018, things remained quiet around HTC. At least, in terms of smartphones. The Taiwanese company made another attempt to score in the field of cryptocurrencies, but did not really succeed here either. Time to revert to a familiar recipe: Android!
On June 28, 2022, HTC will officially introduce its new Viverse high-end smartphone. Given its experience in the field of Virtual Reality, it’s not at all a crazy idea that the company could do something very special with the smartphone. Obviously something much more special that it tried with the Exodus 1 and Exodus 2 (crypto).

The only concerns we have is that, given HTC has been away for a few years after its success was anything but great anymore, the phone isn’t going to be successful enough. At least not enough to leave home country Taiwan. Time will tell.
Where did things actually go wrong?
To this day, it is still a shame to see HTC struggle so much. Of course, it did bring this on itself through poor marketing, but the ideas were revolutionary. HTC brought us the first Android smartphone with a dual-camera system and a portrait mode. Or how about the first smartphone with a unibody made of metal and the first 3.5mm headphone jack? All ideas that other companies adopted and turned out to be a great success.
